Argent's Hydro Blue JKU Build Thread

Hmm well that wasn't much of a catchy title...oh well :)

I took delivery of my very first Wrangler on 10/22/13

2014 Hydro Blue Freedom Edition

Here we are about 20 minutes after I took delivery :)

after a few days - I decided to peel the star off the hood

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H...o/_DSC3023.jpg

Then I installed my new Truck-Lites

then took them for a drive later that night :)

Next up.....new shift knob

I also stuffed the speaker bar with polyfil and installed a homelink

I attempted to put my Vision X LED fog lights in - but apparently you can't take the old ones out without taking the whole bumper off...so that goes on hold until I get my Maximus-3 - then while the bumper is off - swap the lights and install that and call it a day.

I've also got some clear side markers - but that also appears to be harder than anticipated and will need to wait till I have more time.

I've also got some dome light LED's on order....and will probably add some short strips under the dash to replace those lights as well (need to figure out if I can replace the map lights or not still)

Looks good!

StarBrite 10-27-2013 10:52 PM

Hey! You didn't post the picture of the view from behind my steering wheel!

:lmao:

I can't like yours too much, Paul. I don't want to make my baby jealous. :D

Argent 10-28-2013 06:11 AM

Hmm for the sake of aesthetics and my slight OCD - I installed the homelink dead center right above the mirror....however in everyday practical use - that's almost out of my reach - I do have to stretch a bit to push the button.

it is however nice to have that feature incorporated in to my JKU now

and StarBrite - that shot was for you :)

StarBrite 10-28-2013 07:05 AM

:)

Argent 10-28-2013 08:48 AM

Got my dome light LED's installed today....need to investigate if I can replace the map lights in the mirror or not...and what I can do about the footwell lights in the front.

StarBrite 10-28-2013 08:50 AM

MAN! You start modding EARLY in the morning! LOL

You want to change the bulbs that are in the footwell? Or you want to add more? Doesn't it come with puny footwell lights?

ElectricJay 10-28-2013 08:59 AM

Congrats:thumb: That's a great color.

Argent 10-28-2013 09:02 AM

new domes came in today's mail - that's why I've already done them this morning :P

if I can't replace the stock footwell bulbs with LED ones - I'll just cut the wires to them and wire up my own LED strips just to get the rest of my interior lighting to match.

I have considered even adding strips to the bottom of the doors that are wired to the domes so you can see the ground when you open the doors - more details here

StarBrite 10-28-2013 09:06 AM

Will you post some interior night shots, please?

I really like that step light idea. Especially now, when we live out in the middle of nowhere and there aren't many street lights! Can't wait to see how you do it! :)

Argent 10-28-2013 09:07 AM

Yeah - I'll try and get some tonight after bowling when its actually dark out :P

Huh... I thought it was still dark till noon up there in Yooperland! :D

Argent 10-28-2013 09:36 AM

Mopar Headliner kit and the plastic door sill guards are in - I'll pick those up after work and see about installing them tonight as well :)

(hopefully I can install the headliner kit without having to take the top off)

Mopar sill guards installed...don't have time to do the headliner kit tonight

MacCTD 10-28-2013 05:08 PM

Looks nice, did you install the anti flicker kits on the headlights? Thinking of getting the same ones just not sure if the anti flicker kit is needed, some say it is some say it is not.

042 10-28-2013 05:21 PM

Those sill guards add a nice touch. Are they front only or all 4 doors?

Argent 10-28-2013 05:27 PM

Yes I added the anti flicker harness, I figured it couldn't hurt and I was already spending that much for the lights anyway.

And yes the sill plates are on all four doors.

Like the look of the Hydro Blue, though I still prefer the dark color changing look of my True Blue Oscar Mike. I'm surprised to see that they no longer include the mineral grey wheels as part of the package like the earlier Oscar Mikes.

Yeah I wish the wheels matched the grille better...but I'll try painting them with some Duplicolor wheel coating in Graphite when the weather gets nicer.

Olsen185 10-28-2013 09:44 PM

I made these for my buddy's true blue the other day but it definitely looks nicer with your color. I really like the hydro blue, I keep coming back to look at it.

Duplicolor graphite is pretty dark, I painted my wheels with it, I thought it would be lighter than it turned out.

Argent 10-29-2013 06:10 AM

Yeah - I've used it before on a set of wheels I had on my Neon years ago - but the grille is pretty dark too - like my OCD's kicking in about the insert on the bumper not actually matching the grille (its lighter silver like the wheels)

StarBrite 10-29-2013 09:05 AM

Another one of my first free mods will be to remove the Sahara bumper wrappers. :puke:

:lmao:

Hmm yeah I guess I could try that see how it looks...I might consider painting them to match the grille if I can find a color close

No not yet - haven't had much time after work to sit in the Jeep and poke around with sharp implements
