Offroad went wrong

5 Attachment(s)
So today me and some friends decided to go offroading and for the first time ever it went all wrong. As I was coming up a hill I slammed the gas pedal thinking it was more to the hill and oh boy! As I flew like 3 seconds on the air I realized there was no sand to ride on and I ended up slamming the jeep front to the ground. At first I think it was okay but when I took out to pavement I noticed the front tires where inside out and when moving the jeep made cracking noises, I think I might end up messing up the front differential since its leaking oil and cause of the fact that the tires are looking inside out. I also noticed the hood looks asymmetrical to the whole body. Any suggestions on how much this might cost to repair? They also told me I could ended up messing the 4x4 as well..

From the pictures it look like axle is bent. Around 1500-2000 to replace. The side shots of the jeep fenders looks like a bent frame. Insurance may total out jeep pending on cost of repairs. As far as cost.... Thousands. Insurance will total it out if the cost to repair it is higher than the value of the jeep.

Wow! That sucks, but I bet it was fun while it lasted.

tkfx 10-27-2013 09:37 PM

Axle is bent, and since you have a Sport you would have the Dana 30 axle which you would be able to find on craigslist for like 100-500 in good condition.

Other thing that might be worth taking a look at is if your frame is bent.

i've been getting all kinds of responds, so here are some other pics of the impact.

Sinister6 10-27-2013 10:54 PM

bent axle for sure...
Next Jeep look into a hand throttle...a lot more control and things like that are less likely to happen...

Tweak 10-27-2013 10:58 PM

looks like it is just your axle tube. not a huge deal. the body damage came from your tires hitting your fenders

jackor 10-27-2013 11:01 PM

If you're lucky, the quarter panel damage is just from the tires smacking into them, otherwise, you're looking at a bent frame. and congratulations on being the first to successfully install an "extreme camber" kit on a jeep.

gbush 10-27-2013 11:04 PM

Hopefully is just that.. in that case all I need is to replace the front differential right? If its just that Im planning on getting Detroit Lockers Differentials.

Gotta do the whole axle. And Lol I would start wheeling it a bit more before you get lockers that can get you into even more trouble....

gbush 10-27-2013 11:24 PM

so the whole axel and stay away from lockers would be better?

Moabrubi 10-27-2013 11:33 PM

Am I the only one who laughed?

"As I flew 3 seconds in the air"... LOL.

Lunatic Fringe 10-28-2013 01:16 AM

You fudged that axle good!
Admit it, you tried jumping your Jeep didn't you.:happyyes:

Mowrangler 10-28-2013 06:01 AM

Take a CLOSE look at pics #2 #3 #4 it clearly indicates the frame is bent upward, that is why the hood is moved forward and there is a gap at the bottom of the front fenders. The bent axle is the least of your problems.

mommymallcrawler 10-28-2013 08:01 AM

Ouch! That hurt. Very thankful you were not hurt though. The poor Jeep has definitely seen better days.

T2000J 10-28-2013 09:01 AM

Well you popped your Cheri now you know you can't jump like that lol . New axle and if your frame is bent it can be straightened if you got the money I have seen worse that got fixed ..
Welcome to 4wheeling shit happens !

Well Im gonna tow the jeep to the mechanic today to get the final veridic. Thanks for your help I think the body frame might be bent a little and for sure a new axle. I'll keep you updated on the progress and the cost of it ddc4edde1e

Jeremyx04 10-28-2013 12:34 PM

Yeah that Dana 30 is gone but like others on here sad you can get on on crageslist for 200- 750 an then take that to a body shop to have the frame looked at an if it's bad you can get one from a junk yard for around 100 or so. Hope you get that jeep back on them trails!

Jeremyx04 10-28-2013 12:45 PM

An to add to my lost post if you can find some Dana 44s on Craigslist I'd go with that as a upgrade you wound enjoy it!

a locker is just a single part of an axle, you broke the whole axle. the two are completely unrelated.

worldrider555 10-28-2013 03:03 PM

Frames bent.... insurance is gonna total it out.

jquinn83 10-28-2013 05:45 PM

You need to get a orange '69 Charger, paint an 01 on the side and a confederate flag on the roof. Stay away from Jeeps.

Mody n Domy 10-28-2013 09:47 PM

Back in 1975 I bought a CJ5 and one of first things I put on was an front axle truss. I have a 12 Sport now and don't recall ever seeing one for the front axle. In fact one of my friends made it for me it was very easy to install and it gave the axle good support.

ChasUGC 10-28-2013 10:03 PM

Darn. So, Jeeps can't fly. And all this time, I thought I had the Dukes of Hazzard beat off-road. I guess not. Keep the wheels on the ground when off-roading. Well, thanks for the lesson.
