Soft top Problem

So, I took my soft top down yesterday and all was good until I tried to put it back on. I couldn't; I can't figure out if the canvas has shrunk or if the frame itself is messed up. It takes almost Herculean strength to get the front clips close enough to the frame to snap it back on...it shouldn't be this hard to do, should it?!? Help!

Have you had the top down before? If I leave the top down on my jeep for a few days it seems like it needs to stretch and is a little harder to latch.GOOD LUCK!

Just a few tips to make it a little easier. I have the 06 unlimited and stand at 5'2". These are my solutions. Stand in the back seat to get the top started and pull it over your head. There are 2 elastics straps that run from the 1st bow to the back, make sure that these are straight and not twisted. This can prevent you from being able to pull it to the header. Do not re-attach the back corners until you have the top secured at the header and the side pins locked in place. When re-installing your rear window, always start from your left to right. When you get to the corners, push in on the upper corner and the zipper should slide on around. There are numerous videos to help you, but yes it can be a bear for 1 person. Good luck.

I've had that problem before myself. Its a lot harder to do when it colder outside.

Those two elastic straps that hold the back bar to the front...well one of mine ripped and came off so I couldn't get the top up because one side was way tighter than the other, so I cut the other one. Now I have no problems getting my top up.. Before it was like yours it took super strength to get the back hooked in but now it's easy, I don't advise cutting or taking off those straps but in my situation it worked. the top is \still tight, it doesn't leak and it's way easier to put up as long as you make sure the back bar is in the right spot since the straps arent there to hold it anymore.

hey TJ lady, i find this a common occurance with my soft top, especially when i try to put the top back on when the temperature is below 70. my trick to getting it back on is to first lay the top back into its original form before you took it off. since the fabric is too tight for the latch to lock into the windshield frame, go to the back of the jeep and push the top part of the frame up and towards the front windshield for a good 10-20seconds. then try to get it locked in again. if you have a friend with ya then have them push from the back of the jeep and then you can pull the front of the top and get the latches into the frame holes. i get tired of it after a whole summer of dealing with the constant cool nights and night driving up here. its 73 outside right now and on any normal summer day the top would be down, but i just don't want to deal with the problem of putting it back up haha. the hard is gonna be on this weekend. GL:)

oh it also helps that the back corners and window flaps are not secured to the frame. my way that i just discribed works when the corners are still in bc it'll stretch the fabric. i sometimes don't care to take the soft top down properly like you see in the videos on youtube.

A couple of people have mentioned this above but, definetly make sure the back corners are not hooked in. It's pretty much impossible (at least for me) to get the front part of the top latched onto the jeep when those back corners are hooked in.

just put it up and let it sit in the sun for awhile and you should not have any problems at all, it must have been cooler out when you tried to put it back up, the sun should allow you to stretch it alot easier.

Update: Got home from work today and got it right up and over. Ha! How do ya like that..I'm not sure what the problem was this a.m. (not enough caffiene yet?), but with a little assistance and checking to make sure the straps weren't tangled it went together just fine...the sun wasn't even out either! Go figure.

Note to JD's Dream: I'm 5'1", so I hear ya!
