2008 Wrangler X iPod Install

Hey guys. I'm new to these forums and I'm glad to be here!

Just bought a 2008 Wrangler X and I want to have my iPod Touch wired into the radio. I saw this product,

Jeep Wrangler iPod Interface

but I am not sure how to install it (I'm not great with cars but I want to learn). This is the type of thing I want (connection from the bottom of the iPod) but I need a little help.

Is this what I want or is there a better way to do it?

Thanks and I look forward to using this website!

There are far better ways to connect your iPod than that. It's just a charger with an fm modulator. With that unit, the only thing you can control with the stereo is the volume. And if that's what you want, you can get something equivalent to that from Crutchfield for less than half of the price of that unit.

If you have an aux input jack on the front of your radio (which from the photo's I've seen online, you do), you can hook up a double sided 1/8th" jack cable. You can pick them up from Radio Shack for about $8.00, and an ipod car charger for $30.00. This way you don't have to continuously search for a clear FM station to broadcast to.

Ok, I thought that would add the controls to the radio.

Is there better quality when you use the dock connector instead of the AUX?

Quality would be somewhat better, but you're still in a Wrangler :) Mark W.

for the price i would suggest buying a new head unit. i paid about 170 dollars for my kenwood and interface cable. the quality of the kenwood is good and this interface cable allows you control the ipod THROUGH the cd player itself. this way you can have your ipod out of sight and all of your controls on the deck itself.

Sounds like I need to look into a new radio!

On the JK's, there's an integrated CANBUS system that precludes simply dropping in a deck as on older models. You need an interface adapter, that costs over $100 extra. PITA, but it's life for us :) Mark W.

wow what a pain. it seems the newer the cars get the harder and more expensive it is to put systems in. my buddy and i put a system in a lil colorado and the cost for a harness and din kit turned out to be about 90 bux:eek:...70 of it on the harness. when i put it in my jeep it cost me all of about 30. but im sorry you have to deal with that in your JK's.
