2012-2013 Superchips 3870 Flashpaq Group Buy?

I received an email from Superchips today introducing their "Real" Performance Tuning Options for 2012-2013 3.6L Jeep JK Wrangler vehicles.

Is anyone aware of a group buy going on right now for the new 3870 Flashpaq? If not, does anyone know of a vendor that may be willing to set up a group buy for this?

From reading the various forums, there are a lot of 2012-2013 JK owners out there looking to buy the 3870 Flashpaq for their 2012-2013 JKs, including myself.

I could have beta tested this thing about a month ago for 150.00

I was scared so I didn't.

Electronics are not easy to fix with a wrench.

Interested

You should of it works. I had good experience with my last device on my 2010 and had faith in the company so I volunteered to be a tester. There was a thread on here that almost scared me off though

Does this mean we will get features like 4hi lockers? That would be great. I was planning on getting a flashcal but for just a bit more money I can have the option of an engine tuner.

TherapyJeep 11-02-2013 08:15 AM

I will buy if there's a discounted group buy. Someone should contact them to set it up.

JK-linux 11-06-2013 08:57 PM

Don't do it. It doesn't seem to be ready yet, even though they have advertised it as ready for 2013 Wranglers... I just bought this for my 2013 Wrangler and here is what you get as of today with the 3870...

It took about 2 hours to download and transfer to the handheld all the updates (11 databases & firmware for the handheld device). That was after I logged on to Superchips Forums to try and figure out how to get around the failure to connect (to Superchips update server) issue - hint: it isn't a connection to the server over the internet issue; you need to delete the Flashpaq driver on your computer and then restart your computer. This needs to be repeated for each of the three update cycles you perform on a new device, or each time the handheld is restarted by updates you install. Two hours later you then plug it into your vehicle to save the Stock Tune which takes about 20 minutes for two files. Hold on - after saving the stock tune the handheld tells you "vehicle calibration not on file" and to go back again and update online. OK. Back to the computer and connect your handheld programmer again. Damn! Remember to delete the freaking driver again and reinstall it again after a reboot of your computer. Try another 12 or so times to connect to Superchips and finally I get a new screen that says there was no tune available for my vehicle and to leave my email address - I'll get a tune in 2 weeks according to the splash screen. Wow. Then it takes you to an online store to sell you more products.

I have to admit, I'm quite disappointed.

UPDATE: I called Superchips tech line this morning. They checked the data file I sent them and it looks like I have a CALID they haven't seen before. This was apparently causing some of the update issues. The extremely helpful person on the phone took my cell number and said he would things along to Engineering. Hopefully I will have a fix soon. Great customer service so far!

mine worked great right out of the box. when nate emailed me to tell me to update it i plugged it in my computer using their software (think its called spark) and it updated after about 10 minutes. plugged it back in my jeep and it uploaded the updated tune. done deal

Yeah, for some folks it went smoothly. Apparently, the CALID on my Jeep is not one of the ones they had for testing. They are adding CALIDs as new vehicle owners buy units and update (I guess). Not a huge deal, but something people should keep in mind - may not work right out of the box and take a bit of persistence for some folks to get up and running initially.

Thats tough to say considering im now running a different tune. When i first got the programmer Nate told me to just plug it in and install the tune of my choice no updating required. So I plugged it in and installed the tow tune. I noticed a difference right away in low end torque unlike with my 2010 that required a couple tanks of gas to kick in. It was almost too jumpy and im running 410s and 37s. My fuel economy did not change and may have even lost a mile per gallon. A couple weeks later he told me to plug the programmer in spark for the update so thats what I did. The update uploaded onto my programmer just fine just took some time. When it was done updating I plugged it in my jeep and installed the 87 tune. The peformance is marginaly better than stock but the gas mileage is about 1 mile to 1 1/2 miler more per gallon. I may go back to the tow tune to see if theres a difference after the update

I was on the superchips website updating my flashcal and didn't see anything about a flashpaq for 12 to 13

monte417 11-07-2013 11:07 AM

yes they work. i adjusted my tpms to 22 psi, changed my axle ratio, adjusted my speedo and disabled my locking door chirp. You can also disable your tpms completely you just have to download the software which I did in case I ever want to use it. I kinda like having a functional tpms though. im sure the other crap works to just havent messed with it yet. I had great experiences with my last flashpaq from my 2010 so when I got my 2012 I patiently waited for them to release it and im glad I waited

Keep in mind that if you don't have a 2012, you may need to work with them to get up and running. Your sig line says you have a 2014. I believe they are looking for 2014 Beta testers still. Amongst other things, this usually means they don't have all the CALIDs yet (at least this is still the case with 2013s). Maybe you can get the $150 Flashpaq deal and be in the 2014 test group?

Exactly what happened to me. If you made it to the screen where it asks for your email, then enter your email. I did this and called them early the next day. They were able to find my file which the updater application had sent in to them. The guy on the phone said he would send it it to engineering - they didn't have the specific CALID that my vehicle had installed on it. About 24 hours later, I received an email saying my tune was ready and to run the updater again. I did this and received the update which was apparently Database3 - took about 10 minutes to update after which the updater app will flash an error - you can ignore it as there isn't anything else to download... Took a while to install on my Jeep as the handheld had to run through all the backups of File1 and File2, clear DTC codes, upload the updated tune File1 and File2, etc... I installed it and it works great for me - much more responsive and no drive by wire lag.

Maverik 11-11-2013 08:06 PM

Will keep fingers crossed that I can get a fix that quick. Going away for the weekend, 500 mile total trip. Wanted to give it a good test drive. Will call them in the morning. Thks for the reply!!

So who is going to set up a group buy?

JK-linux 11-12-2013 04:56 PM

Northridge4x4 has them for $282.99 shipped. That's pretty cheap. Use Discount Code "shark tank" and you get it for $268.84 shipped. Even better! I'm be pretty shocked if they sold it any cheaper than that. ;)

Branman 11-12-2013 05:27 PM

I emailed them asking about the release of the 2014 tunes. I also asked about the ability to have 4hi lockers. He said the tune should be available in beta real soon and said the lockers should be available as well.

I just ordered mine today. Thanks for the tip! $268.84 shipped to my door is the best deal going for this thing. :awesome:

Captain Ed 11-13-2013 07:20 AM

So what can this thing actually do for a 2013 J/K sport automatic that a Pro cal can't?
I'm not against spending the extra coin but I am not sure how this is going to net me that much more torque or extra HP. I'm sticking with 87 gas so those other tunes don't appeal to me but what else can it do?
