Small tires
 
I want to do some experimenting. I want to try the narrowest, tires I can put on my Jeep. Something that will hold like 40psi. I'm trying to figure out how to get maximum fuel efficiency. I'm looking for low rolling resistance. Looks make no difference to me, at this point. And for what I do, I have no need for bigger tires than are on half ton truck. I feel this thing should get at least 30mpg. My 6 cylinder Nissan Quest, gets in the high 20s, with the AC on.

tires, motor gears, tranny, etc....?

You can go with the OEM tires and wheels that came on some jeeps.

They look like this...

The original tire size is 205/75R15 which when you convert to inches equals 27.1x8.1x15.

I got --P235/75R/15. I want to go extreme, then work my way bigger if needed. that little Jeep just don't need big tires, for tooling around town. I'm thinking maybe something like 6" wide, if they make them. and maybe a little taller. She has more than enough low end torque for my needs now. It never will see mud, unless somebody throws some at Her.

4-Banger, with 5-spd. Stock as far as I know. --P25/75R/15, with stock steel rims.

I know I can't do much with the current "lego" shaped body, as far as wind resistance goes. But can do something about rolling resistance, I think.

I really think narrow 32's 33's look really good.

Buy a different vehicle if you want 30+ MPG. Lowering it and running 40 PSI on the tires won't give you 30+ mpg. Adding a Trip Style Cone to the front won't give you that either. Different Fuel source is your best bet and if you can come up with that give me a call and I'll switch to it.

You could go 185/65R15. I have a set of those so I can get my jeep into the garage. :D
I don't know if you can go much smaller than that. That is the equivalent of a 24.5" x 7.3" tire.

Like Lev said, the chances are this isn't going to work. The tires are going to be so small your going to have to redline the engine to do the speed limit.

If you want 30mpg you can have it with a Cummins 4BT turbo diesel engine swap.

I think you might need to start looking at very specialized tires and wheels to get what you want. Tall, super skinny, high pressure and highway safe. Sounds like maybe a trailer tire?

:eek: I think that picture needed to be in the dark far more than mine.

Actually putting those tires on was more of a spur of the moment thing. I just had to do it right then or it was the end of the world.



Just an FYI Thaskateguy, if I remember correctly I was turning about 4500-5k rpms and hadn't reached 60mph yet.

since my Jeep weighs next to nothin, I have considered those small spare tires. that come on lots of cars now days. I know they hold up to 60 psi. If I drop that down to maybe 50, I'm wondering what that would be like. I do want them taller, not like low profile tires with that wagon wheel look that all the Kids are using. I still want some tire to protect my rims. . but just a narrow tall tire, to raise my gearing some.

Why do you think that is. The little Jeep is light as a feather, and has fuel injection. why such poor gas mileage? the gears seem about right. don't leave much that I know of, other than air resistance, and rollin resistance. but I admit, I'm new to Jeeps. but I like the base unit.

I remember standard pick up tires, from back in the day. they were tall and about 6" wide.But those don't seem to exist anymore. My Jeep reminds me some of My dads old 49 Chevy 1/2 ton. Plain and simple, and about the same gearing as my Jeep. I learned to drive in that thing.

u can get close to this its takes some real ingenuity and a little understanding in hydrogen tech look into making a home brew hydrogen cell they work and u should be able to get more mpg's
