trails around the Grand Rapids, MI area?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a few good trails to take my TJ down and maybe get a little muddy but I don't know of any close to me. I know of a few nice trails but they are all about 45min to an hour from me, but I would like to find something closer.

does anyone know of any good trails in and around the Grand Rapids/Wyoming, MI area?

let me know and maybe i'll see you out there!:punk:

There are a lot of good trails around GR haha but I've yet to find any in the area. I am from Newaygo so this is primarily where I jeep it up :)

Most good trails in MI and in central and northern MI. My parents live in Pinckney which is right outside Ann Arbor and I know of a few places in that area but its mostly private land. There is also Bundy Hill off road park near Jonesville. Or, there is Rocks and Valleys which is right next to where I go to school up in Mt.Pleasant. The actual park is in Harrison though. Great park with really nice guys who run the place. Thats my favorite place to wheel in MI. I do have a small rock course at my parents house thats pretty fun but its not very big and it can get boring after a while. I do change it up a bit every once in a while though when theres diesel in the tractor, lol. Shoot me a pm if youd ever like to do some wheelin together.

Allegan county

I can vouch for allegan county two-tracks, as well as barry county. There are a lot of county roads and logging trails that I love to run. I run a yj 2.5 with 4" lift and 32's and usually put it in 4-hi due to a nice mix of sand, hills, and washouts. These trails won't challenge (enough to break) your rig, but are sure to be a lot of fun. holler back!

i know its not trails but being in GR you must have visited Silver lake. ive made a number of trips there this summer and im alot farther away.

I live in the GR area as well and am looking forward to Spring and trails, course I must say the snow has been a blast as well!!

Hey all, I live in Grand Haven and would also like to hit some trails every now and then. I'd like to try to avoid breaking that cardinal rule (wheeling alone) and I probably won't make it out EVERY weekend but it would be nice to get some of us West Michigan folks together on some sort of a regular basis to go have some fun!

Thanks for the link btw, I'll be checking that out! So far I've mostly just been buzzing around in the snow in the Manistee Forest but would like to find some more areas.

Randar4401 01-22-2011 03:27 PM

I am with you. Cant make it every weekend, but would love to hook up and enjoy a weekend or two. Let me know cause I am so willing to show what a Jeep can do!!!!!! Winter is fun, but summer is even better in Michigan. Did you all see the video of the Jeep that Flipped, and then got a few people to right side it and went on his way! That is what Jeeps are all about!

hey, im in muskegon and was thinking the same thing. I want to see what my jeep can do, but dont know anyone to go with.

20 min north of Muskegon here .. montague. State land isn't that far manatee forest ...here there's some trails out that way. Haven't had time to explore in the new jeep this summer. Looking for trails my self out this way

thewasel 10-13-2011 04:38 PM

Near Twin Lakes just northeast of Muskegon is "Cedar Creek Motorsport Trails"... there's a bunch of atv trails over there but also some two-tracks with a few fun spots.

JeepJKX 10-23-2011 07:30 PM

In the Muskegon area and wheel almost every Friday between Muskegon and Mesick depending on time. I know folks say not to wheel alone, but I do it often. I just make it a habit to turn around if the mud looks bad.

Just remember to stay on the trails. In the National Forests you must stay on marked/numbered trails. State Forest on two tracks that show signs of use, sand or gravel showing. Say off any two tracks that show grass or weeds pushed down.

YJquin 10-27-2011 11:17 AM

Might have to go to Muskegon area some time ... ill wave if I see you :)

28th and clyde park in Wyoming area, its kinda hidden in the neighborhood back there. I go play there just about everyday and always lookin for new people to wheel with, sunk a Cherokee off the two track last week. A lot of it is pretty mild though

Live in the Niles area and looking for trails also

White Cloud/Fremont/Newaygo area here if anyone wants to go. I know a few trails that are decent, and we could always get together to go to the dunes or Twisted Trails. They'd be fun if we had a group of us to go.

The YJ is under the knife right now. Waiting on my rear lift springs in order to put my 8.8 and SYE in. Then I have to measure up the length I need my new driveshaft to be. Hopefully won't be too long though. Should be done within a month or two so it shouldn't ruin any plans.

Out playing today on dirt roads (snow covered) and took a couple power line paths and ended up plowing into a absolutely hidden deep 3 1/2 in thick ice covered three foot deep hole with my mostly stock TJ. I no longer have the bumper lights ( they are hanging by the wires )... My grill is dented in along with the drivers side fender... The jeep (on wet roads) doesn't seem to pull but the steering wheel is now at about 1 o'clock while driving straight.

(My first post, joined this site last night)

I am now in the market for all above said parts.

St1n3r 03-19-2013 06:44 PM

*in the Grand Rapids area*

bawheel 04-02-2013 05:55 PM

Greenville area here. I have a JKU but it's stock, so I don't know how much fun I'd be riding with you guys. But if you'd like someone else to trail with, give me a holler.

Sorry about your mishap - but glad to hear you did not have a run in with law enforcement to add insult to injury. Unless you are on a marked trail that runs along the power lines, the right of way is leased to the power company and considered private property.

Yeah I kinda figured it wasn't the best idea, against the law.
I just moved here from Boulder Colorado, a bit of culture shock. I had a

Anyway, I will be more aware of the local laws, try to act like an adult and a more responsible member of the Michigan off-road community.
