hey guys a quick question. how can i find out what transmission i have in my jeep. its a '98 tj. 5 spd 4.0L inline 6 the reason i ask is im looking to purchase an aftermarket shifter for a little smoother shifting.
im not entirely sure what you mean by that. could you please elaborate. sorry this is my first stick shift so im not exactly intelligent when it comes to this.
You don't need an after market shifter for smoother shifting. You need to modify the way you shift gears. Especially if you have a lunch box style locker in the rear. There is a good chance with a little modification to your shift habits you will notice a better feel when shifting. The AX15 isn't the best transmission out there. It was never designed to be thrown through the gears. Slow down. And try again.
Yep, one thing to remember is that it is a truck transmission and isn't super fast to shift like a car can be. However, if you really don't like how it shifts, you sure could put a short shifter in to lessen the throw distance.
