This seriously needs to be stickied in a few places....

Anyway, here is a link to a great map of offroad parks in the U.S.

Off Road Lands - Parks and Trails by Location

This is a really good listing by state, and seems to be a pretty comprehensive list... I am very sure it is not 100% complete by any means though, just a very very good source.

That being said, I would also totally suiggest making the road trip across Illinois to get to the badlands. It is the best 4x4 park in the area by far.

Yeah, I think Attica is your best bet

I live in down in Waterloo, and I've gone down to the Mississippi bottoms area a few times. This is south of I-255 in Monroe Co. I just go down Bluff Rd. and find a turnout into the bottoms. I haven't seen any signs prohibiting this, and no one has given me a hard time about it. It is all floodplain for the river, so no crops to worry about. It is however, deer season, and you wouldn't want to ruin somebody's day. There are trails and open fields that you can go down, and it's pretty obvious that others are having fun down there as well. Just remember, I'm no expert so wheel at you own risk.
