sway bar links

My swaybar links have popped out of their sockets, can I just weld them back in(ball to socket)? They are the stockers on a 01 tj.Everything I've read says this is a no-no running without swaybars, now am I doing damage to my frontend without them hooked up,or is it a safety issue?Am I overthinking this?Looks like I could weld them easy enough, but do they need to articulate also?Don't want any binding.Thanx.

They are cheap to replace or just upgrade to some nice discos

jdub2k5 10-27-2009 10:18 PM

Disconnects GOD I'm a tard. Thanks guys, but,is it foolin with my axle not having them hooked up?

jdub2k5 10-27-2009 10:21 PM

the second image I posted, the cotter pin removes allowing for more flex offroading..

if your lifted stock ones will not work

those ran me 150 but are absolutely need... and they are available in less extreme versions for much cheaper

baja 10-27-2009 10:31 PM

Ok,then they are of a safety issue correct?

No it won't hurt your Jeep by having them disconnected which is pretty much what you've got with one broken end like in the pic. I'd take at least the broken one off so doesn't flop around. You'll notice more body roll disconnected and it's definitely less safe at greater speeds and could lead to a roll type situation if you had to swerve at speed. As mentioned you can upgrade with some nice disconnects, especially if you do much offroading and disconnect your swaybar, they come in very handy . . . or you can find someone that lifted their Jeep and still has the stockers hanging around and pick them up cheap . . . $hit, I have a set off my 06 with maybe a year on them . . . 20 bucks plus shipping?!?!

jdub2k5 10-27-2009 10:33 PM

you have to have them to be safe on the highway... I am driving without a swaybar and I go 3-5 feet left and right at 60 mph its very dangerous so unless you drive under 40-50 and take backroads get the bars mine arrive in a few days and I am borrowing my fathers truck until then

baja 10-27-2009 10:41 PM

Question answered thank you,That is a good deal, but I'll end up popping those as well.My concern was the front end, structual damage.Cali is alot faster paced I imagine than a town of 2500,I've got a DD anyways.Thanx again.

jdub2k5 10-27-2009 10:45 PM

Body roll is dangerous at high speeds, hell it's dangerous at any speed in the event of a bad situation, but I keep to the gravels and fishing trails.Got a DD for hiway stuff.Thanks.:wavey:

I was raised in a town of 65....no i didnt leave out any zeros. 65 people. Just a fire dept, and a post office, and the co-op. 6 miles north of me is a town of 2 people. Little old couple that never moved away with everyone else. Biggest town in the county is only 1200.

adkjoe 10-28-2009 01:23 PM

around 18 here, hell the biggest city in Vermont (Burlington) is only 37,000 people.

Jp90Talon 10-28-2009 03:21 PM

I miss VT! I graduated from Saint Michael's College and really wish I lived back up there.

adkjoe 10-28-2009 03:28 PM

I love it here, by the way I meant 1800 not 18 :) but still small, all the towns are like that up here. I go by st. mike's all the time when I'm down in essex, I'll say hello for ya!

You have a fire department?? They are not that busy are they? :D

Bigstonz 10-28-2009 05:59 PM

Swain, NY- 500 people, small ski area, post office, 1 tavern. Swells to 4 bar/restaurants in winter.
JKS discos work great. Truth be told, I don't find the need to disco that much.
