Water in Engine?

Hi,
I was out splashing some puddles today. Jeep did great, and I drove to a restaurant with no problem. The Jeep sat for about an hour before I got in to drive again. As I accelerated, in any gear and in neutral, the Jeep would shake like it wanted to die. I pulled off to the side, and cut it off. When I tried to restart the Jeep, the engine just turned over. It wanted to fire a couple of times, but it sounded as if it just backfired.

I'm thinking one of two things. Either 1) it's something in the fuel system such as the filter....or 2) splashing all those puddles somehow got water into the engine. Thoughts? And if it is water in the engine, how do I get it out? Just pull the plugs, and turn the engine over until water stops coming out?

Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks.

Could be water in the distibutor. Take the cap off and dry it out.

Spray some brake parts cleaner in the distributor too if you've got some, its always good to clean that thing out and it'll help dry it out

If was water in the distributor it wouldn`t even run at all, or shouldn`t anyways,,*lol*
But with what you explained afterwards,, makes sense,, Sounds more like a crack in your distributor cap.. Normally that happens when the engine is just starting.

Well, it was water in the distributor. Removed the cap, and it was damp inside. Sprayed some electrical cleaner in there, and let it set, put it back together, and it started up and has run fine all day. Thanks for the help.
