Proformance Chips

after browsing ebay for a good deal on a soundbar i've noticed a bunch of chips that'll claim to get you more torque(+30-45) fuel economy (+3-4) and HP (+50-100)

and these chip are only like $30 . . . . anyone using them? or is this just a scam?

Here is a generic search for the chips for my '94

that chip is less of a waste of money:D.

seriously though, i had a jet stage 1 performance chip in my tj. i don't think it got better gas mileage, but it did have a little quicker acceleration, but all in all, it did not do enough for me to notice. i got rid of it a few months ago. this one that you are looking at is a load of crap, if it can achieve that much hp and mpg, why doesn't jeep use the technology right off of the assembly line?

KBR97 10-28-2009 10:10 PM

hahaha...the hat cost more, LOL..shit..

yeah i was kinda figuring it was a scam . .

but for $200 you can get universal "chip" (looks like a code reader) and you can DL the mod for almost anycar, plug it in, it does it's stuff, unplug and drive

now i know this one works (dad used to use it on his tahoe) but idk about spending 200 on it

thats why i was thinking MAYBE just MAYBE these could be worth it, since they claim to be wrangler YJ specific, the price could jump down being that it's not universal

plus, alot of them offer money back guarantee if you don't notice anything

being that i have the shitty 4cly i'm willing to try almost anything

jgwalt 10-29-2009 02:05 PM

have you tried the 4.0 throttle body mod?

do explain

is this like taking parts form a 4 liter and putting it on my engine?

i know some parts are enterchangable . . like i once had a chevy convertable 2.2l engine, but i put a 3.6l air intake on it . . . shit tun more hp, before i sold it i was told that corvette fuel injectors would have also fit on it

i was wondering if the 2.8l and the 4.0l had interchangable parts like that . .

jgwalt 10-29-2009 08:35 PM

well I am unsure of specifics as far as what years work with what...but If you have MPI you can take any 4.0L MPI throttle body from a wrangler or a parokeet (cherokee) and install in place of the 2.5L throttle body. You have to swap over the throttle sensor and idle air control...it's pretty straight forward. If you're careful you can take a die grinder or a dremel and "bore" out the intake manifold to make it the same diameter as the new throttle body. I am happy that I did this. You can definitely tell the difference. my gas mileage is uneffected...I burn 85.5 octane and get 20+. here is a good write up...
