Wheel Movement
 
So the other day my girlfriend was following my while i was driving the Jeep. She said that it looked like one of my wheels was sticking out farther than the others. After Looking, I have to agree. Its been a couple days of everytime i get out of my Jeep and i have it figured out to when i turn to the right, it seems to push ride side wheels in and left out and vice versa. Its not much, maybe 2-3 inches each way. Is this just normal, axle movement? Or something else?

2-3 inches is tons in my opinion. Front or rear? are the track-bars in place?

If it's moving 2-3 inches you have something wrong! It should even move that mush with no bushing in the track-bar!

The rear is the only place i seem to notice it, im still at work now, but ill check track bars and all suspension stuff when i get home tonight. I just got my new wheels put on oh about a month ago, im pretty sure they torqued my lug nuts, and i check them about 100 miles later and they were still good but ill double check them just to be sure.

For it to move 2-3" I'd wonder if the trackbar is even connected or there . . . that's way too much play. Do you have a lift? Is the Passenger tire sticking out more than the Driver.

ya i threw a 2" BB on it. Thats what it is most of the time is the passeger side it out farther than the drivers, and it looks like the drivers is sucked in.

As you raise the Jeep, if you don't increase the length of the trackbar, you'll see the axle move over a bit toward the passenger side, but not 2-3 inches and certainly not with just a 2" BB on it. Something sounds wrong here and if it's really 2-3" worth of movement, I personally would track the problem down right away. Start off by checking that rear trackbar, it's not unheard of to rip the bracket right off the axle or frame . . . they're really not that beefy.

Ya 2-3 inches was just what it looked like in the wallmart parking lot at the time. It could be way less and i was just overexaggerating it. But ill definately jack up the rear tonight, first see if i can get any movement out of it and then double check track bar, lug nuts, all that jazz and then take a measurement of each wheel and see how different they are.

Ok just got our from under the jeep. Turns out the axle nor the wheels move. The Lug nuts are tight, track bar is in tact and sold. The shocks and every other suspension components are fine.

But i was not hallucinating. The right rear wheel is nearly right on 1" farther out than the left wheel. Front wheels, are the same. Is this normal yet?

1" seems like an aweful lot for the axle to be off center with a 2" BB. I wonder if you could have bent the trackbar a bit making it shorter and pulling the axle farther over to the passenger side. Couple of options I'd look at . . . If you plan to stay with a 2" lift, crawl under someone elses Jeep and see if you can see any difference between the bend in yours and theirs . . . if so, you can probably find a used trackbar cheap . . . lots of guys will have them laying around after they lifted theirs (I have one laying around if your out this way) . . . with a 2" lift the stock one should be fine. If you plan to go bigger later down the line anyway then upgrade to an adjustable one so you can dial the axle in now and will be able to lengthen it a bit when you go higher to center the axle again.

I just looked at my 98 Sport,My rear is 1" out more on the drivers side,So Im blaming You Drummer_192....If I wouldnt have read your post I wouldnt have noticed it and it wouldnt be bothering me,I'll see what I come up with this weekend,I expect you to cover all the cost of repairs being its your fault I noticed....joking man,I'll chime in if I find something wrong on my end

One of the reasons I like forums is in cases like this,We learn from otheres,Thankxz for posting the thread that pointed out my problems I didnt know about

Heres a thought,I build Scale 4x4 r/c trucks and on my minuature 4-link set ups if my control are ball joints are worn oor improperly adjusted the axles will sway side to side,I'll look at my upper and lower control arms this weekend

sounds good, ya let me know if you find anything off. I would love to look under someone elses jeep, unfortunately im the only one around here that has a tj. As long as its not gonna mess anything up or hurt it anyway im not gonna worry about it really.

See what others seem to think, but I would not want my axle over that far . . . It might not be a huge deal, but I'd imagine having your control arms, driveshaft, etc all pulling to one side would not be the best thing.

Haha im exactly the same way. If my girlfriend wouldnt have said anything i would have never noticed it either, now i look at it everytime i get out of the jeep.

Try to see if your's is bent or something (I'd hate for you to be in the same spot after getting a new one if there's nothing wrong with yours now) . . . shoot me a PM if you don't know anyone local with one as I'd imagine shipping would be about 20-30 bucks.
