Ok, here is the deal, I am looking at buying a low milage 2000 Wrangler Sahara. It has a 4" Skyjacker Singleflex suspension lift, and a 2" Body lift. It is in good condition, but there is one thing that I am worried about, and have little knowledge, so I am here.
The steering on the Jeep is very sloppy. You have to turn the wheel a little more than a quarter turn before you even get any feedback. I don't know if that will be a good enough description for people, but does anyone have a clue at what it might be that needs to be fixed/replaced for this to work better?
Please let me know ASAP, as my purchase depends on this, and I don't have much time, as I don't want the seller to sell it from underneath me.

check all the joints in the steering system, have someone turn the steering wheel while you watch and see if you can locate the source of the problem there. It has to be one of a couple of things, one which can be the steering box and the other being any of the number of joints in the system, also check the mount point of your steering box for any cracks or wear..

Yeup the boys are right on. Problem probably lies in the gear box/pitman arm. could have a wallowed out pitman arm on the drag link end or the splines on the gear box end could be a loose fit.
After a while stock steering boxes start to dislike big tires.

Thanks for the things to look for. Would this stop you from purchasing a Jeep that has low miles? I found this Jeep, and it only has 49,000 miles on it, and I can get it for $10,500.

The body lift could be the part of the reason for the steering issue, as I recall on some 2" body lifts, there is a steering rod/braket support that has to be used I would check that area out as well, just follow the rod out from the tub and trace it down to the steering box and you shoud find it, should be where the joint is.

Well, I bought the Jeep, and had it looked at today at a local frame shop who specialises in 4X4's. The coulprit turns out to be the track bar, so we have a winner. Unfortunately, I have to get the part through skyjacker (the lift that was already on the jeep), so it's going to be a couple of more days, but after that all should be good.
The only things I'm going to do to it this year are some new fender flares, and a borla exhaust, as the "cherry bomb" style that the guy put on there is driving me insane already.
