My date with Rustoleum

It was a beautiful weekend here in NC and i needed a good reason to spend my day workin on my baby, sooooooo...............
i busted open the ole rustoleum cabnet and decided to clean her up a bit.

The shocks are only about 2 years old, but from wheelin at the beach they had gotten so rusty, so that is the first thing i tackled.

Before....

.....and After

With the tires on its hard to notice the shocks, but when you do see them it looks much better.

But i did not stop there... I noticed my headlight bezels were a little too shiny, so i blacked them out and now the only thing left to paint is the tires.
That will be soon.

Just about any auto store, hardware store or even your local walmart.

Yeah walmart is a good place to start. its really cheap and i used about half a can on all 4 shocks, no primer needed. and its supposed to prevent rust as well.
Its hard to see the shocks with the tires on but its the little things that will make a ride look good....IMO

So I can go to AutoZone or something buy it, then, once I spray it on the under carriage, like shocks, frame, skid, axles? What do I do? Pressure wash it off?

Same as painting anything. Prep work... sand/remove all rust. clean it , primer, sand if needed, paint, sand if needed.

yeah it is like a paint, not a degreaser, or whatever, it covers up the rust or prevents rust from forming. i did not prime or sand the shocks at all. it is mainly used to make rust covered metal look like new again.
but with the chrome bezels, i did sand it first and prime it an sand some more, just because i am using it as a paint and not a rust preventer, so i treat it like a real paint job, no need to do that for the shocks

and.....
It comes in ALL COLORS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so like the frame or something near the side steps, would I sand it down a little then spray black rustoleum?

yeah i have sprayed the frame as well. if it is rusty then you might want to take a wire brush to it first and then spray, but if it is not rusty then you really dont need to sand.
some colors might show off imperfections a little more than others but you can tell after the first coat if sanding is necessary...if you need it to look neat.
