Thoughts on Hoist-a-Top?
I'm considering the purchase of a manual Hoist-a-Top from Quadratec, and I was wondering what people thought about them. How difficult is it to remove with the manual winch as opposed to the powered one? Is it worth the extra $100 for the powered version?

As it is, it's a pain for me to get a 2nd person over to the house to help pull my hard top, so it tends to stay on more often than not these days. Thanks in advance

How much do they want for it ? I built one using s cheap 120v winch from harbor frt. 1.75 tube with a 90 degree bend so I can swing my top over shelf in my garage. the winch was under $ 100, the tube I had and the rope I made the sling out of was like 10 bucks and I still have about forty ft left. May sound hokey, but it works really well and I move my top slow, on and off by myself. Just a thought.

$159.99 There's a link in the first post to the hoist. Powered version is about $100 more.

I think I spent a total of about $20 on mine....4 14ft ratchet straps, a 6ft 2x4, 4 eye bolts, and 4 heavy duty bike hanger(ish) hooks. Maybe not quite as easy as a winch would be, but very manageable for one person in a matter of about 15mins.
Note: the 2x4 is used to hold up the rear of the top (not shown in img), rather than hooking onto the corners. Some fellow members on hear recommended this as the top will bow over time if you dont.

I have the manual version. Personally I think it is great. The powered version would be neat to have - but not worth the extra $100 to me. I take the top off in spring and put it on in winter. Not spending an extra $100 for something I would use twice a year.

After reading the replies, and reading the installation instructions on the Hoist-a-Top, I may just build my own instead. It looks to be fairly simple affair.

Thanks for all the info :D
