31's on stock suspension

I keep reading post about whether or not 31's will fit on a stock suspension. My 04 Rocky Mountain Ed. came with stock 30's, the PO had 31's on it when i bought it and they seem to fit fine. could the PO have had a small lift put on? what would i look for to tell if it had been? everything looks stock to me but then again i have no clue what i'm looking at either. I'll try to post a few pics.

No 31's fit very snug and fine in your Stock Jeep.

I had 31's on a stock suspension and they worked great.

I have 31's on my stock 03 X and they're fine. I just need a little more back spacing on my wheels which I hope to get soon.

I have 31X10.5 R15 bfgoodrich tires and the wheels are MT Sidebiters 15X8 and the back spacing is 3 5/16 inches, everything seems to work just fine, but I don't know about going crazy offroad with this setup.

31's on stock suspension 1999 TJ SE and 1999 TJ Sahara

will rub when steering wheel is at the extreme turning lock position.

31x10.5 BFGs on stocker, only rubs on a real tight (think parking lot mayhem) turn, but not enough to make me give them up.

I just replaced 32x11.50s with 31x10.50s last week and my JKS 1.25" BL just arrived yesterday. Next Sunday I'm replacing my 3" BL with the 1.25" BL. Hurray for me. I get into some rutted out areas and I don't like any tire rubbing going on. It looks funny right now with 31" tires and a 3" BL. Anybody want to see a pic for a good laugh at my expense?

OK. It had this 3" BL with some 32"tires when I bought it. Here it is now with the 31s and the 3" BL. Very unsightly. You can see I'm holding one of my new JKS 1.25" pucks beside the 3" spacer. My buddy and I will install the new pucks next Sunday. I'll post pics of the results then. You can really see the space between the body and frame in the pic of my new mud tire. 31s may fit without any lift at all but I want to make sure there is no tire stuffing or fender flare shredding going on. I love Danimal's Jeep but his front tire looks stuffed too close in his photo for my comfort. Use these photos as a reference to steer others away from a 3" BL.

wonder if you could cut down the 3 inch pucks and re-use them with the correct hardware ?

JeepnJim 12-05-2009 07:06 PM

Probably could be done but I want fresh stuff if I'm going through the trouble of jacking up the body and all the other crap I gotta do to lower the tub. I just feel better about using new stuff.
