Lifts and power

How much will a lift (2" or 3") affect the power of a 2.5L engine? I was told too big and the HP will suffer, so I'd like to hear your opinions before I continue....

Its not so much the lift, but the bigger tires that usually affect the power. For example if you have 3" lift and keep your stock tires, it will be about the same. If you add 33's. vs say stock 225's, then you will see a difference.

You could always try changing out you gears. That tends to get a little pricey.

a K&N air filter helps (a little bit) with mileage right?

waste of money. theres a thread with a link to consumer guide that proves there worthless.

Bigjeep is correct on the K&N here, It allows more dirt that is not microscopic.. you can see it if you remove the filter (there was a pic somewhere online). The K&N fits the better mpg theory because it allows air to be "free flowing" so the engine has less stress on the vacume but again it alows more dirt and alows more air if you step on your jeep more so to get better mpg you will need to drive really really really smooth and easy other wise it will worsen the mpg. A high flow cat should help with power though:)

Ok, I'll be the one here that says there was a minimal (seat of pants) power gain from my Banks Intake. Read again, I said minimum. My Jeep seems to have just a little bit more umphh when I stomp on it. Was is worth the $ 300 or dollars it cost me? No. I wish I had that money back to invest in other things. Would I advise someone else to buy an aftermarket intake? No. Am I taking mine off? No. Read the first part again, it cost me $ 300 DOLLARS!!! :D I'm keeping it until the filter rots off. :D

That's the old placebo affect for you.

Well well well...I knew you would respond to that but I thought it would take MORE than 30 seconds! :flipoff:

Placebo? Maybe. I still think there is some power gain. Like I said, it's minimal at best. It's certainly not $ 300 worth of power gain.
