TJ Turn Signal Switch on Backorder

Can anyone help? I am trying to track down a new or good used headlight/turn signal switch for my 05 TJ. The Chrysler part number is 5016709AD. My dealer said there are over 1200 on backorder in the U.S.

Autozone is on backorder. They get it from the same supplier as Chrysler. Advanced Auto does not even list it.

My switch broke in High Beam mode. I tried to break it open and manually switch it back to low beam but no luck.

Any advice on sources to buy one are welcomed. Thanks

Might help if you let us know if you have fog lights or not.
I often see the switch, w/o fogs on eBay. About $80.
W/ fogs, I don't see as often, but they are there on occasion. About $90

jeepsareus is where I visit when I need parts.

Jeeps Are Us: Jeep Wrangler Turn Switch 97 - 08

is that it?

distortedtj 12-15-2009 12:23 AM

doh!... sorry. I know the photo isn't correct in that link but they had a drop down list on that link for other model years and with the integrated light switch turn signal/fog lights stuff. still not it?

rambone 12-15-2009 11:47 AM

Had the problem with my 03 Jeep's turn signal's not working when I bought it. Got the turn signal switch from jeepsareus.com for $145. Like you everybody had it on back order!!! I needed the turn signals to work to get a brake tag. Also after I changed the switch it still didn't work, the fuse was burnt under the hood. Everything's working fine now.

Contra 12-15-2009 12:11 PM

not to hijack, but i am having a similar problem where i need to replace the switch (and i would), but i don't know how to take off the wheel without setting off the Air Bag

gmcdonald8 12-15-2009 12:22 PM

Got It!

Thanks everyone for your help. I just ordered the last one from Jeepareus.com

I appreciate the advice and help!!!

gmcdonald8 12-15-2009 12:23 PM

Contra, there are two phillips head screws on the underside of the plastic steering column cover. Remove those, and the steering column cover comes apart in 2 halves. You do not need to remove the steering wheel.

huh...cool thanks for the heads up!

Common step missed by most is the last one, Make sure you swap the flasher relay!!

Bookmarked this thread! Thanks man!

HyperBuzzin 03-14-2010 10:05 AM

Nice write-up!
All in all, this isn't anything that hard to do, and there is no worries about setting off the air bag.
When I was trouble shooting why I couldn't get my interior lights to come on with the switch (but did come on when the door opened or turned the key off), I just got my tools and went at it with no instructions. Pretty straight forward job. Just take your time.

wpark013 09-08-2010 05:36 PM

HarderMods, thanks for this post, just replaced mine. No problems!

jiminmanjr 05-17-2011 08:30 AM

This thread saved me some major headaches and cash. I followed the pictures exactly as above, and got the job done in 45 minutes (it would have been faster if I had paid attention to remove the flasher from the old and place it in the new).

THANK YOU!!!

Hardermods 05-17-2011 09:56 PM

Happy to help, glad you got it fixed!

YHSublime 05-17-2011 10:57 PM

:eek:So Hardermods... you just did that write up because you were bored at work?!

Haha, I'm just reading through the threads, and have no need for this (Yet, I probably will one day,) too cool, thanks!

Hardermods 05-17-2011 11:21 PM

Well when I did it, there happened to be multiple posts on here for the same concern, ie replacing it. Since I had a dead day in the shop I figured what the heck it won't take too long so yeah I did it lol.

Thanks again, this was a great DIY. Really appreciate it. :punk:

My turn signal lever does not return to center after making a turn and my steering wheel returns to center, but my signals do work, I just have to remember to turn them off  Do I need to replace the multi-function switch or is it something else?
Thanks for any help and sorry to hi-jack the thread!!!

Sounds like its time for a new switch. Mechanism has gone bad.

By the way, I know people have been able to find this part but I bought it on eBay from this seller: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

$35 with free shipping. Part is a perfect fit, installed mine today. I think that is a darn good price! Wanted to share it with all of you Jeepers.

Now if I could just figure out my darn turn signal problems.... the replacement switch didn't solve it.

BTW, since the turn signal switch I pulled out of my car wasn't causing the problem with my blinker chronicled here: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/erra...ff-122058.html (can someone please help!??? No one has responded), I am selling my old (but working) turn signal for $15 + shipping. PM me if interested otherwise I will put it in the classifieds.

Cheers.

Indycop 11-20-2011 07:48 AM

Thanks, i wondered if it was the switch or the "clock springs", I'm just not sure what they are? lol
