YJ temp gauge problem
I have a 88 yj 2.5 and when I start the engine the temp gauge moves all the way to the right off scale high. After running for a little while (maybe 10min) it will drop to normal operating temp. can anyone tell me what might be wrong????

sounds like a bad sending unit or a bad ground

Replace your thermostat. Any time your jeep over-heats your thermostat is junk. Replace it and it shouldnt do it again. If it does find out where you are leaking coolant/antifreeze fix it, buy another thermostat. and it should be ready. thermostats are cheap like 3 bucks at autozone. my jeep did this when my water pump went out.

definately the sending unit or the ground. With it jumping up when you start it it is something electrical.

It could be in the flexible circut bd that the gauge connects to. I have a similar problem in my 87. It will either work fine, NOt work at all or be pegged all the way to the hot side. There is an intermittant short/break on the circut bd. You can reach up under the dash and wiggle it or tap on it right near the gauge and the condition will change. If you find the problem area you can jump the bad spot with some wire and solder it in place. Good Luck

Temperature Gauge
After getting my engine rebuilt, my temperature gauge has not worked since. Now after a full Sunday in the mother-in-laws garage, I just replaced my temperature sensor, temp sending unit and water pump and it still doesn't work. When the Jeep is off, the needle is all the way down to the left, when you turn it on it comes up to the first white line then stops. Any ideas???
