Fuel Injection Conversion

Hello :wavey:

So I'm sure that many of you have seen the $1,200 kit from quadratec. (Howell Engine Developments CA-YJ258 1 - Howell Fuel Injection Conversion (California Legal) for 87-91 Jeep® Wrangler YJ with 258c.i. 6 Cylinder - Quadratec)

I was recently told to just search around junkyards till I get all the parts necessary from newer engines and doing the conversion that way.

So my questions are, Will this work? and Will I need 2 computers? (I'm not sure if my engine even has one, I've never looked for it)

Thanks :D

i have that kit in my cj and it is awesome, but i just happened to have the kit laying around in my garage. if you don't just have the part laying around and you don't want to spend $1300 for the kit, you can do a 4.2 to 4.0 head swap. i got the howell kit for my hubby a few years ago for his yj, but he never installed it, so he decided to put it in my cj. once he gets the yj back together he is going to do a head swap. i found a pretty good write up on the swap 4.2 to 4.0 Swap

GM 1/2 ton & s-10 trucks in the late 80s to the early 90s used the same Howell setup. I'm not enirely sure all that you need to cabbage off the donor vehicle, but it can be done. And yes, you do have a computer in your Jeep. If it's an 87 thru 90 258 it has a computer feedback carb on it. These are complete trash!!!! You also have one that controls the distributor also.

Hey Everybody,
I'm trying to get a little help with my Howell Fuel Injection Conversion.
I'm nearing the end of a 2 year rebuild of my 89 YJ 4.2L, 5 speed, I removed everything and started from the ground up. I have installed a rebuilt 4.2 and I am wondering what stuff I need to PUT BACK on it. I have most of the installation done, the vacuum lines, the TBI, sensors, fuel pump / filter, the problem is the main wiring harness. I read somewhere that MOST of the wires can be removed. If anyone has any information on what wires / plugs can be pulled out, that would be great.
Thanks
