Gearing Question

Ok guys, I have a 95 yj with a 4cyl. I am putting a big lift on it and dana 44 front and rear out of a 87 wagoneer. I am also putting 35x12.5x15 tires on it. My question is, what gearing in the axles should I go with? I do drive on the freeway and the speed limit here is 70 I dont want to speed but I would like to hit that number. I would also like to get good gas milage. I know putting bigger tires on give you a bigger gear, what gearing would put me back to stock with those tires?

i beleive 5.13s with a 4 banger and 35s will put you back to stock or slightly deeper

thats to low go with 4.56 or 4.88

if it was a 6 i'd say go with 4.56 since you do some highway. a lot of people would rather have 4.88's though. since its a 4 banger i'd say 4.88's or 5.13 would be good.

actually....35s with 5.13s will be turning less rpms than your stock 26s with 4.10s

I knew this would stir people up. I have 4.10s now and Im on 31x10.5s I think I should be using 4.88s now cause with 4.10 I cannt use 5th gear. So I need to go higher than 4.88 number wise that is. Everyone agree with 5.13?

Sure, if it is too low geared, you can always compensate with larger tires..........big grin here.

Well I went out today and got it, 5.13 ring and pinion set front and rear master install kits and detroit locker rear and detroit truetrac front. All for about 1400. Now I have to take apart my dana 44 axles.

sweet!

do you already have the 35's?

18derrick 12-02-2006 08:14 PM

No I dont have the 35s yet. But I dont have the lift yet. Im starting with the axles. Why do you have a set your getting rid of?

mrbigjeep 12-02-2006 08:25 PM

nah. i just wondered if you were gonna install 5.13's with small tires like 31's or something small like that before you got the bigger tires.
