Problems with my vents

Hey guys,

The vents that swivel and blow air in your face, and the ones on the floor have all stopped working. The only vent that does work, is the one that blows straight on the window. The first and second speed don't do anything. It's a 2005 TJ sport....and it's gettin' pretty cold here in ohio. Anyone have any problems like this?

You have 2 separate problems...first you need to replace your blower resistor. That will give you all your speeds back. Second, the little door that switches over to your blowers is busted, jammed, or something. I had this problem when I bought my Jeep, only defrost worked...dunno exactly how they fixed it, but I was told it was a pretty quick and simple fix.

Ughh.. I had/have both problems. The HVAC system is very simple and the resistors in your fan speeds fail. (I lost #3 but the others worked fine). I found a used HVAC controller for $20 and it took about 15 minutes to stop it.

Does your air direction change if you roll off the gas at speed and stay in gear? That's a vaccum leak and what I have. I just have no idea how to chase it down to find out where it's coming from. The little poltergeist in my ducting picks and chooses when and where it wants to blow the nice hot air. The higher the speed/pressure the more likely it defaults to the defrost.

Yours may be jammed but if it's moving at all it's probably vaccum. Good luck on the fix! (btw, the HVAC replace is very, very easy!)

Check under the hood first. Lookat the valve cover on the drivers side. There shold be a vaccuum hose coming off there. Trace it up to the fire wall and look for any signs of the hose coming off. Usually it's right at the valve cover. Reconnect any of those hoses and you should be good. Your center vents are actuated by the vaccuum hose.

i'm guessing one of your problems is the plastic clip on the cable that controls the damper is broke, passenger side right under dash. zip tie it on and forget the clip.

Thanks for all the solutions, I'm going to give it a go tomorrow in the AM. Sounds like an easy job, which is wath I am looking for..but who isn't!

I also had this problem, the vacuum line runs very close to the battery at one point, the line got pinched and put a hole in it. This was a dealer fix at no charge because they know it's a common problem.

Mike, just wondering if you fixed the problem?
