I recently just purchased an '88 Wrangler. The thing had been fully restored and everything was new, but it has been sitting in a barn for about 6 years. I drove it home no problem, but I am starting to have brake issues now. When I start driving from a cold start the brakes work fine, but the longer I drive it, it feels like the brakes start to build pressure and hang up more and more. I had to drive it from my place to a shop where I could work on it (about 5 miles) and by the time I got there I couldn't do over 40mph. Any thoughts as to what the issue might be??? I searched around the forum to find a similar problem but haven't had any luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

6 years? I would say your calipers are rusted and not releasing. I would start with pulling the front wheels and checking calipers first.
Pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual if you haven't worked on brake systems before. Could just be some rust in the caliper pistons.
Sounds like front brakes because of the simple physics of the symptoms.
Welcome to our world! You picked a good place to start with your questions, these guys are awesome and very knowledgeable.

Well first congrats on the new Jeep and in no time you will be a top notch mechanic.
Just put it up on four jack stands pull the brakes apart and clean them while seeing if anything needs replaced. Flush all the old fluid because it could have water in it and that will cause it to boil when you use your brakes and cause nothing good.
Brakes are a simple but dirty job but once done should not need looked at again for a long time.

also a good idea to replace all three rubber hoses, the rubber can collapse on the inside and you would never tell from looking at them from the outside. the rubber collapses and holds the pressure on the calipers and/or wheel cylinders.

I agree with doc dave. That happened to me. I just replaced the front brake hoses, real cheap and pretty easy to do. Way cheaper than calipers, its a good thing to try

When cleaning, use brake cleaner, not another solvent. Pulling them apart and cleaning them is a fairly easy task, even for a clutz like me.
