Did a search and couldn't find anything about this.
Just installed a RE 3.5" Superflex on my '05 TJ. the lift raised the rear about 5" and the front about 3.5". It looked bad with the front so much lower so i threw in my 1.75" RE spacers and took out the OEM spacer. Also did the transfer case drop, until I can get a SYE kit. Still have some vibrations from the rear though. After putting in the 1.75" spacers my front drive shaft is rubbing on the skid plate crossmember. I tried some spacers to lower the crossmember a bit but with even the slightest flex on pavement the drive shaft would hit it, so I would have no flex off-road. What is the common solution to this? I just removed the crossmember and tranny pan skid plate for now.

Hmmm, maybe this is a dumb question. I can't believe no one has experienced this. Maybe I am too impatient, been told that before! I should mention that this is my first Jeep. Bought in 2008. So I am definitely a newb to building a Jeep....and any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I guess my question is not clear. I was wondering if anybody else had issues with the front drive shaft hitting the front skid plate crossmember after installing a lift, and what other members had done to solve the issue. I just removed it for now. Thanks.

grab out the sawzall. Cut a notch in the skid pan were the front shaft needs to go. I have only heard of a few people catching there pan. It is weird.

My buddy had the same issue, but on his 5 speed...the DS would rub the belly pan if he drooped the front axle. Like jdhallissey mentioned, just break out the sawzall and go to town!

Ummm....did nobody else catch this? You should not be driving your jeep around without the cross member (skid plate) on. The Skid plate holds your transmission up and into place, nothing else.
Did i read this right? And you still have a transmission attached to your jeep at this point?

The crossmember that I am referring to is the one right below the tranny pan (auto trans) and there is a small skid plate that attaches to it at one end and to the transfer case skid at the other end. The tranny isn't supported by this crossmember, only the thin stock skid plate. It seems that the driveshaft is only hitting the crossmember and not the skid plate, but without the crossmember there is no forward attaching point for the skid. I would like to keep some protection, although this is limited because of the stock thickness of the plate, for the transmission pan. But I don't see a way to do this without the crossmember there to support the plate at the front. I don't see a point in this crossmember other than for the skid plate attachment, but I'm not an engineer, so was wondering also if this adds needed lateral strength, or if there are ways around this, and if removing it is harmless since it appeared to be completely non-load-bearing for anything besides the small skid plate.
