bleeding the clutch on my 89
 
should i replace the master cyl. first it's not empty but my clutch goes to the floor before it disengages and also does it take a special fluid(i've never had a hyd. clutch before )

It takes brake fluid.

When did this start? Any leaks on the driveway? On the firewall behind the Clutch Master? Any leaks up under the dash above the accelerator? You say it's not empty so I am guessing it's not full????

Bunch of scenarios here. Could be a small leak in a line, could be a corroded bleeder valve coming out of your slave, could be it just sucked up a bit of air if it's "not empty" but not full. Start with the simple first, check for some brake fluid leaks

Hopefully it's not the slave. It is inside the tranny.(What a pain !!!). MIne did the same thing a few years ago. I went ahead and switched out the master. It seemed to do better after that.

Flush the brake system and start with all new ( brake 3 fluid ) .
This will let you start with new fluid and no air in system to see if your clutch works.
If pressure will not come back then it will be time to replace some parts and the next easiest part is the clutch master cyl. and if that does not work it is time for a new internal
slave cyl . and instead of doing that go ahead and replace the whole clutch and flywheel including changing it over to a external slave cyl. so it will be easy if you have to do it again years done the road.

i've looked all over can't see any leaks,and also i don't see the bleeder anywhere.the master cyl.is down on min.it seems to get worse as the engine gets hotter.the po said the motor and tranny are remans with about 40,000 on them and that they replaced the clutch then. thanks guys i'll try some fresh fluid

The bleeder is on the drivers side coming out of the bell housing.
A power bleeder like a mighty vac bleeder is the best way to make sure all the air is out.
and make sure you first remove all the old fluid since you do not know what kind of fluid they used ( dot 3 dot 4 ect. ) so remove the old stuff and just refill with dot 3 brake fluid .

Be careful JR when you try and break the allen head screw loose on that because you might strip the plastic threads in the master cylinder I had to replace mine when I installed the new clutch
