Modding a stock rear bumper

Is there anything I can do in the line of modding a stock rear bumper? I can get my hands on a free bumper but its about 35-40 minutes away. I wanted to put some d-rings on it and maybe trim it down some. Any advice would be helpful. :D

I would advise not putting d-rings on the rear or front stock bumper.. its a very thin wall steel, ... d-rings should be welded to either a frame mount or into a more solid bumper. You can however add a couple tow hooks back there by using the stock holes 1 in the frame and one that is in the bumper bracket, and I think you have to drill one on the exhaust side of the bumper. Not as strong as having both holes in the frame, but will work for quick strap pulls if you have nothing else.

The first time you run a strap through that D ring on your stock bummer someone is going to get hurt from the flinging debris. A Warn Rock Crawler is only a few hundred bucks and it will never let you down. It will also save your tub corners if you ever come off a shelf or ledge a little harder than planned.

For what that FREE Bumper is going to save you the results could be a great deal more expensive.

Ok well I guess I will just keep it as a spare bumper! I didn't even think about it but will these 05 Rubi bumpers work on a 97 TJ Sport? If not, oh well, I already picked them up but I was just wondering.

Yeah, I don't believe they have made any changes in how the bumpers mount to the frame between any of the years.
