new to jeeps, any suggestions
 
Alright I got a 97 wrangler for my first car and I am starting to plan out what I want to do with it. I want to start to go off road, and all that stuff so I am thinking about getting a 3 or 4 inch lift kit with 33" tires.

I am thinking on getting 33" bf Goodrich T/A KO, Goodyear Wrangler AT/S, or the general grabber AT2.

I thinking of the Rough Country 4" Series II Suspension Lift, but donít really know much about lift kits so if anyone has any suggestion on that it would be awesome.

I also want to get black front and back rugged ridge tube bumpers with the winch cut-out and hitch, and the 3" round tube nerf bars. But I donít know if their ideal for off-road or not

Also I was thinking of getting RCX Black Painted Steel Lock Wheels
And for performance I was just looking at some thinks like k&N 57 SERIES HIGH FLOW AIR INTAKE KIT, rugged ridge EXHAUST HEADERS, and some sort of exhaust system

So if anyone has any suggestion or anything that would be awesome, my jeep is basically stock.

Don't waste your money on the intake... the stock intakes already flow really well.

Other than that, the only suggestion I can offer is...if you don't have a good job, get one. You're gonna need the money. lol

This here is my first car. I had 33 and first but it shifted really bad and I lost a lot of power, I now run on 32's.

Welcome & congrats on your first ride!

You ask a lot of good questions & each mod should be planned out well.

First - cosmetic changes like bumpers are easy, cheap & DON"T MESS UP YOUR JEEP. Sorry for yelling.

Second, If you put on 33" tires you will need to change the gears in the axels or your jeep will be very very dificult to drive. Re-gears are expensive & best left to a professional. Since you are just starting out - start with 30" or at most 31" tires. These will still make driving worse, but not impossible.

Third - Any high lift (over 2 inches) will cause tons of trouble with your drivability if not done correctly. By correctly I do not mean installed correctly, I mean that high lifts require a lot of other stuff to be changed that doesn't come with the lift to work right. For instance - your TJ came with a slip yoke. On the back of the transfer case the drive shaft will slip in and out as the rear axel moves over bumps etc. If you go up 4 to 6 inches & hit an obsticle that causes the rear axel to droop the driveshaft will slip out of the t-case & you are stuck. Just driving w/o obsticles cause serious vibrations with high lifts. You will need a slip yoke eliminator to lengthen the drive shaft & prevent problems.

The front end/ steering will be in a similar boat. Need to adjust & change lots of things for lots of lift.

I'm not trying to tell you not to do this - All are good mods & God knows we've done a lot of them - I just want you to know they are a lot more difficult & involved than just bolting on the lift.

So - plan it out - save your money & do it right 1 peice at a time.

First off welcome and it's not a car it's a jeep lift and tube bumpers are a good start 33 will be a great look exhaust is also a good start so many options man

oh god no not tube bumpers. For the price of tube bumpers you can get nice bumpers with a stinger on them. Those tube bumpers look so ugly

Also 4" lift doesnt mean vibrations if you get a T-case drop, there are ways around it. Just as a quick fix though.

But yea get a job. Youll need it because once you start adding one thing on, youll need other stuff to compensate for it

As for not getting 33" tires over 31", I wouldnt prefer it. Go for 33" first so that you dont have to buy it later after youve bought 31"s. Sure you lose some power but its not like your car wont run. I ran it for a year before regearing and I couldve gone 10 years without regearing. If you want to offroad however, i would get 31" as itll be less stress on your axles and youll have more power.

If you do want to regear, dont do it. buy an axle already regeared you ll save tons of money

I wouldnt bother with tube bumpers either. my Wrangler had some when i bought it and they rusted and rotted out and just free from the mount the other day, They looked horrible to boot.

out of your tire choices go with the at ko's those are just plain bad ass tires. I live in MD(frederick) too and they are great in the maryland winters. They also allow room to air down and provide good traction off road while being fairly well mannered on road.
