'New' engine..?

Okay guys, I was at Jesse's jeeps in Louisiana and I was talking to the owner, and he said that there was an engine left over from a V8 swap. It's a 2.5l 4cylinder for 300 bucks. I'm gonna find out the mileage on it tomorrow. (Don't know why I neglected to ask about that) anyways, I was going to poll the masses as to whether or not this would be a wise venture. I definitely need to learn how to work on engines, and I really want to too. Just wondering what some opinions would be. Thanks guys!!

What exactly are you asking? I think for details are needed.
Are you replacing a 2.5 with it?
If I was replacing engine I'd look for a 4.0 if that would work with the Jeep.

I'm asking would it be worth it, if it had less miles than the one I have. Already. I will go and ask about a 4.0 definitely. Or should I just pass on it and save money for more parts. I'm fishin for votes basically to justify my purchase. That and possible ideas that would go with a motor. Go karts, mud buggy, stuff like that.

Go with a 4 liter. Just say no to the 2.5. :)

Why do you want to buy this? Is yours shot or something? Do you want to put it in your garage and diddle with it? I wouldn't unless yours was completely exploded

my current engine has 185k and this one has about 100...I know not a whole lot of difference, but, like you said, i think Id put it in my garage and 'diddle' with it till something blew in my current motor, or I find a need for it.
