Doors rubbing on hardtop

Just purchased my first Jeep Wrangler yesterday. It is a 2003 Sahara with a hardtop. I have a question. I have noticed that both the driver door and passenger door are rubbing on the hardtop when closing. There is about a half inch spot on both sides where the doors have rubbed the paint off of the hardtop. Is there any adjustment that can be done on the door or the hardtop to gain more clearance?

I have taken my doors and hard top off several times and when they are put back on, they rub when closing the doors. Don't know exactly why, but I have just accepted it. No big deal to me.
It may be the fit along the tub rails, where the hard top is bolted down. I put some foam tape along that area to get a better seal and that may be causing it.

That's easy to fix. Unlatch the windshield frame, then loosen the 6 hold down bolts that hold the top to the tub. Then push/pull the top rearward. It'll probably move less than 1/8", but thats more than enough. Then tighten the tub bolts, then re latch the windshield frame. Check to make sure the doors don't rub when you close them, if they do, repeat the adjustment. I do this every time I put my hard top back on.

Thanks for the help, I will try that tonight.

Hey thanks, the door rubbing problems is fixed. I loosened everything and I was able to move the hardtop back enough to allow the correct clearence between the doors and the hardtop.

Thanks Ray San Jose.

I just bought a 2002 that has rubbed so bad the door frames are rubbed down to bare steel and the doors have a tiny fatigue crack where the window frame meets the main door panel at the rear... Near the rub... Constant vibration on the door did it.

I'll adjust the top as soon as the sun comes up. Then I have to take the doors apart so I can get a friend to spot weld the cracks. The door seal on the driver's side is shredded and I'm sure that is from the same problem. $50 for a new door seal.

This is going to take a lot of time for me to repair the damage so this should be a lesson to all hardtop owners: put them on right or you could trash your doors.
