Hard top years

Quick question: I am selling the Hard Top off my 2000 -- It is the OEM top. Do they fit any 97-06? I found someone who is interested but it's on a newer Jeep and they were told only 04-06 tops would fit it... I don't see what would be different.

Not sure Jason, but I seem to recall that you are correct. And Quadratec confirms it :D

I looked at that as well... Guess the OEM top shouldn't fit any different than the Best Top huh... Ok Good nuff

The only difference is the vents in them. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly what year they switched. But the older Jeep hard tops had air vents in them on the back corners, and the Jeep itself had no vent in the tail gate. Then the newer Jeeps had vents in the tailgate and the newer hard tops had no vents in them. I have a 99' with no vent in the tailgate, with I believe a 04' hardtop on it, and it does not have vents either. Sometimes my doors need an extra push to get them all the way closed because I don't have either air vent. Correct me if I have this backwards but I believe this is true. I've also heard rumors which I don't know are true. But I've heard people in my situation blowing there back windows out if they shut both doors really hard at the same time because of the air pressure in the cab not being able to be released. I don't know if that's true or not.... But like I said if my door doesn't shut all the way I just push it in a bit after closing it, or I leave my driver side window cracked a bit and it makes it easier for them to shut.

Yes it will fit ay 97-06. The vents switched from the top to the tailgate after 02.

A quick word on this. There is a small difference in some years of hard tops. I have a 97 and bought a newer top after my Jeep was rolled and the newer top had a plastic guide thing on the mounting surface close to the door frame that my Jeep did not have a hole for. It was easily removed and would then fit my 97 but I could see how if that guide was made from anything other than plastic it might make it a bit more difficult to make fit.

The plug at the rear of the tub that plugs into the top for the wiper and defroster is different starting around 2001 or somewhere around there.

Im in need of a hard top for a 99 TJ. Black in color if anyone close to michigan has one forsale in decent shape.

Otherwise I have nothing more to offer to the thread. :)

The top will fit. The clearance MAY be a little close between the top and the sound pods, so it may rattle... at least that was my experience. An old towel worked nicely to stop the rattling. Jeepsareus.com sells OEM hardtop wiring kits, as well as wiring adapters to go from new to old or vice-versa.

I think around 2002 they also added a stiffener that ran from side to side on top of the sound bar area...doesn't affect fit but made the top a lot stronger.

And as noted above if you put a non-vented newer version on a 97-2002ish the doors close harder because the air inside can't escape through any vents.
