About 10 months ago my battery died. It was fine one minute, made a quick stop and came out and it was dead. I replaced it and have no problems until today. I came home around 2 pm and the Jeep was running fine. At 4:30 pm I went out to take my daughter to practice and it wouldn't start. Couldn't get it to jump start and after a few tries, everything stopped working (dome lights, buzzers, head lights, radio, etc). I removed the battery and it appears fine (no cracks or holes). The battery try was covered with battery corrosion, but I think part of that was there 10 months ago. I took out the tray to clean it and discovered that the group of wires that go into the fuse box had part of the plastic covering melted on it (where is was next to the battery). The wires themselves seemed fine and no fuses were blown in the box. I wrapped it with electrical tape and zip tied it out of the way of the battery. Tomorrow I will go get my battery replaced under warranty and hopefully that is all that is wrong.
Has anyone else had similar problems? Should I be concerned that something else might be causing the battery to go dead without warning?

A lot of auto shops will check your alternator for free. Wouldn't hurt to make sure it's putting out the right voltage.

You mentioned replacing the battery about 10 months ago. When you replaced it, did clean your connectors and make sure that there was a tight connection? This happened with mine and the culprit was corrosion. There is no warning that your battery is about to die with Jeeps, it works one minute and the next minute it is dead. I would suggest that you have the battery tested (not always reliable) and before you replace it or re-install it, clean the connectors with a wire brush. Any amount of corrosion, no matter how insignificant it may seem will drain your battery. Once you have them SHINY, make sure that the connection is good and tight. You should not be able to move the connector with your hand.

yea, definitely check the terminals for corrosion. Also, I had a battery go instantly in my camaro and my saab. In both cars the battery was fine one minute and then dead the next. One car had a bad battery and the other had a bad alternator. As said above, get your alternator checked and keep an eye on your volt guage if you have one

my volt gauge looked good last night, but that could mean nothing today. The battery is still under warranty so I should get a new one tomorrow. After I get it installed I'll probably go get the alternator checked. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll update everyone tomorrow after I get the new battery.

As JD said , make sure to take a wire brush and clean the oxidization off your battery cables when you disconnect your battery.

well I took the battery to get tested and it had 1 cold cranking amp. lol. They replaced the battery for free under warranty. It looked like it was leaking around the positive terminal. I also found a stain on the drive way that looks like battery acid. Just a failed battery.

Make sure you have the battery mounted in solid and there is no tension on the cables or post.
