Warranty issues
I'm sure there is athread for this but I couldn't find it. So here it is my Jeep is at the dealership getting fixed. I figured I would go have all the little noises checked and my thrashed u-joint fixed before I lifted it. I know the service department pretty well here. I've been told that lifting your vehicle can void the warranty, but I do know of the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, to protect guys like us. So come to find out my warranty won't be voided and my drivetrain and all will still be covered. As long ass the lift did not cause the problem. Its great having a service department like that esp. since I don't buy vehicles from them. It's odd though that they did void my friends warranty because mud got into his timing cover. Any way that makes me feel better since I purchased an extended warranty.

They can't (in theory) void just becuase you add this or that. However if as you said the part you added to the jeep can be found to be linked to the problem then yes they can. In your pasl case, the activity he was doing, mudding, casued the issue, not just the part failing on its own, thus most likey the void.

yeah, i have heard some real horror stories about dealerships and warranties. good to know there are still some out there that aren't trying to say that a lift caused engine related problems. just be sure to keep friendly relations with those guys and that'll help along the way!!

(and if you happen to spot the guy that works the desk offroading in a brand new vehicle off the lot with a 40oz in a paper bag, that tends to help negotiations!! :D )

Well the sad part about his void is he bought it used and hadn't even went mudding in yet or lifted it. They tried to say that he submerged it which he hadn't. So he had a problem after he bought it and they voided his warranty.

If any of you have a '98 TJ, there was a recall on the catalytic converter. The dealer replaced it with a new cat and pipe from the header to the muffler, no charge. They then had to flash the computer. I'm not the orig.owner nor even the 2nd, and the rig has a salvage title, and they still did the job with almost 100k miles on it.
