Slipping clutch
 
Yesterday, when I was trying to get the Jeep parked in a lot of snow (it was the only place available), I had the impression that my clutch was slipping. There was an aufull smell, also (the burnt clutch smell - you know).
It is not the first time that I smelled that. It happened also sometimes when I was pulling others out of snow or on the trail. What's weird is that sometimes it smells, some times it doesn't.
Dos it mean that it needs to be replaced? The Jeep has only 80K miles on it. Is it normal that the clutch wears out so easy (my ex-YJ was 100K miles when I sold it and had no clutch isues whatsoever)?
Is Crown clutch good enough (it is half the price of a Centerforce)?

People report their clutches lasting well over 100k miles even with heavy use and lots of smoking.... are you saying it has the smoking smell when driving normally?? I would be surprised if the surface was not catching even at 80k miles but if you are concerned a new LUK clutch is only about $160....

No, it has nott he smoking smell when driving normally. However, I discused with my mechanic (he owns a service and he's my friend, also) andd he said that I shouldn't worry too much. He had the same symptoms on his Mitsubishi Pajero and, when he dismantled the clutch, to replace it, he had the surprise to see that it was mint. So he said that I should wait for it to slip on normal drive and then change it.
