My Jack was too small
I have a 2007 4 door Sahara that is still stock from the dealership. It came with 18" tires. I live in Delaware and over the last 5 days we have been hit with over 36" of snow. Tuesday night I was out with my 3 daughters between snow storms. It started to get really bad and we were about 40 minutes from home so I decided it was time to call it a night. I caught a flat around 8:30pm.

Now I am a 115lb woman but not an idiot around cars so I know how to change a flat. I pulled into a gas station near the air pump (in case my spare needed air) and proceeded to prep my Jeep for the tire change. Meanwhile it's snowing/sleeting at a rate of about an inch an hour. I'm soaked to the bone by the time I got the tire cover off the spare, removed the lug nuts and got it off the back of the Jeep. I loosened the lug nuts on the flat and got the jack out of the back. I proceeded to climb under the back bumper because I'm so short I couldn't reach the axle and placed the jack under the rear axle where I was supposed to put it. I cranked the jack up until it was fully extended and it just barely touched the Jeep.

Frustrated, cold and wet I jacked it down and tried a few more spots but nothing worked. I kept thinking to myself I'm not a complete idiot I have changed tires before what am I doing wrong. By this time it was closing in on 9:30pm and I was soaked to the bone, the gas station had closed and I was alone with my kids in the dark parking lot with no bathroom, no food, no water and a useless jack.

I called my dad who lived an hour from where I was in good weather. The story ends when my dad and brother showed up around 1am with a hydraulic jack and it took less than 8 minutes to swap the tires.

I was curious to know if ANYONE else has had this problem and why I paid $35000 for my Jeep and they couldn't put a $30 jack in the back that would fit the truck. I am going to go to the dealership on Monday and demand they replace my jack with one that will fit the truck, but it's so frustrating that this happened. I love my Jeep but I kind of feel a little duped by Chrysler.

Here is your solution.. a JK jack base from AEV.. I love it..

Since AEV indicates that it's for a 07-08 JK does that mean chrysler changed the 09-10 JK jacks so that they work, since kirakyn said that the Sahara was stock. Any feedback before I think about adding this to the list. Although, it seems as if it only fits 07 & 08's. Anyone else have a problem with their jacks not extending enough on a stock JK.

Use my jack to rotate Rubi tires on 07. Never ran in to this issue. But come to think about it, I always use a cinder block or a piece of 6x6 for a base. I better double check tomorrow since I dont keep these items with me at all times.

Check the owners manual to see exactly what it says about where to place the jack.

Exactly! It's supposed to go under the axle near the shock mount.

Maybe you got the wrong jack; dealers swap stuff at random. They are evil creatures at heart and eat babies.

The stock jack works for me even with larger tires.

Always a good idea to make a dry run with all of your safety gear...
A tire repair kit and compressor should be part of your every day kit as well.

I put it in the right place right behind the tire on the axle, and I tried a few other places as well, it's just too small. I took it to the dealership today and they even tried it and couldn't get it to lift either. The did say they would order a new jack for me that fit's my Jeep so I don't have to buy a new one. Thanks for all the suggestions though. I really hope no one else runs into this problem.

Go Blue Hens; glad the dealer is helping.

For 50 bucks I'll stick with a 4x4.
