Dome light switch

I'd like to be able to run the dome light on a switch. ON and OFF with the doors open and closed is this possible?

would this work?

All you have to do is rotate the switch all the way counter clock wise

I had a switch that did this on my old jeep. Got it off of quadratec. It was great but I only took the doors off a few times. My new jeep I have only taken the doors off once. I just pulled the fuse.

what about turning the light on when the door is closed? cause I would only get this if this is what this does?

Play with your dimmer switch...you should be able to rotate it and turn on the dome light without any mods. If you dont want it to turn on when you open the doors you can just pop the fuse out or when running doorless buy the little pins they make. But you should be able to turn the light on with the doors closed by using the oem dimmer switch.

oh lols. I didn't know I had a dimmer switch :blunt:

Went out and tested. that's sweet... now I won't be swerving all over the road trying to keep the door slightly open so I can see inside the jeep haha...

Yeah forget the switch just get the pins for cheaper

I just installed a home made version of that same switch that Quadratec sells. Cost me all of about $7. It acts like pulling the fuse, but you never have to drop the glove box and remember which fuse. I did keep a 10a fuse in-line for the sake of safety.

Ray - San Jose, can you give more details on how you made it?

Thanks!

Knew I should have made a write-up when I did it.

Its Rather simple.

buy a switch (rated @ higher than 10a 12v)
buy an inline fuse holder (put 10A fuse in there)
figure out how you want to bridge the gap where the old fuse went (I used a blown fuse)

Attach one end of the new fuse holder to one end of the switch you bought.

Attach another wire to the other end of the switch you bought. other end of this wire will goto #1 pole of blown fuse(or equivalent, which will go into the fuse slot in your jeep)

attach 2nd end of fuse holder to #2 pole of your blown fuse

cost from radioshack is less than 7 bucks.

As stated, it's prity easy to do. Hardest part is assembling everything :D

The switch is mounted by the interior light so it's out of the way.

And wired to the fusebox with an in-line mini fuse.

I soldered the posts from a disassembled mini fuse to the ends of my wires. The fuse that was orriginally in the fuse box was moved to the new fuse holder. Works like a charm :punk:

your fuses are upside down, you know they don't work that way right?

:p

I'll go away now.

I keep a flashlight by me lol. No way am I paying money for a switch to shut the lights off when I wanna take my doors off, I'll pull the fuse for free. Which I'll prolly never put back in..

Dome Light Switch

JC Whitney has a clip that fits over the switch pin in your door which keeps the light off when doors are off. I'm trying to find the door switch to replace my broken one. Any clues as to has has those?

Thanks
