Notice: Recent Posts in Right Column

I wanted to let you all know that I am working on adding a system to show recent posts in a new right column (which will be added). We know this can throw some people off since you get used to the site layout a certain way. In an effort to allow those who don't like this side column we have added an option for you to disable it.

You will be able to disable the right column by going to your UserCP >> Edit Options (left hand column) and setting the option that says "Turn off Right Column" to Off.

I will be working on the right column over the next couple days. It's a work in progress and I will post more details once it's dialed in. Thanks for hanging tight during this renovation...

whoa that threw me off for a second but looks like it could be useful

Yeah, it's really weird to see a column like that added when your eyes are used to the site without it. I can say from experience that if you take a month to use the site before disabling the right column you will probably leave it enabled. It's really handy to see all the recent discussions and jump right to the right post in once click.

Thanks for allowing me to opt out of it. Didn’t care for it at all.

I like the sidebar, but only on the main page. When I go into actual forums it takes up valuable reading space.

Just my 2 bits ;)

I'm glad to see the site moving in new directions. Sometimes change can be beneficial. However, I am glad you added the ability to turn it off as well. I'll leave it on for now, safe in the knowledge that I can 86 it at any time :D

Andy R 02-20-2010 10:24 PM

ryt2112, I will see if I can find a way to turn it off on thread pages only.

distortedtj 02-20-2010 10:49 PM

^^^ agreed.

And thanks for all the new cool work done to the forum Andy. I've seen alot of changes over the years and do believe the new tools you and your team have added will help newer members intergrate into the forum.

:wavey:

Thanks! And thanks for taking the time to do site updates etc. also. Changes are always a crapshoot... Heck, look at The Google Buzz ;)

I like it, a couple interesting topics popped up while i've been browsing and probably wouldn't have found them. Thanks for the work!

ok, what am i missing, i go to usercp, edit options, and on the left hand column there is no option saying "turn off right column"

Andy R 02-21-2010 12:02 PM

Click on edit options and then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page.

jpdocdave 02-21-2010 12:06 PM

ok got it, i thought it sounded like it was an option in the left hand column, but its on the bottom of the page.

i also say i appreciate changes and updates, and i appreciate being able to opt out of ones like that. i like the additions of albums, and profile pics, very cool.

I just love it. Is there a way to have it up in the Users Control Panel next to the Thread Subscriptions? That would be very cool.

Very Nice. Thank you.

Love the new feature!! along with the new banner!!

whiteyj 02-22-2010 09:38 PM

Hate it...Turning off. Thanks. My 2 cents.

s3nt3nc3d 02-22-2010 10:23 PM

Annoys me too since you can access the recent posts (well...new posts, close enough) from the Quick Links menu above... but thanks for giving us the option to disable it. As long as we have the option to disable it, carry on:)

Btw... I'm addicted to WF...and I'm constantly refreshing for new posts. It's funny to see that almost every time I refresh, you guys have added/removed/changed something on the site, whether it be colors, locations of/new content boxes, etc. haha

Yeah, I have been working on the live site tonight. I figured it's better to let members see some funky stuff while working on things then taking the site offline. Thanks for being patient while we continue our evolution.

s3nt3nc3d 02-22-2010 10:37 PM

Not a problem dude...I don't mind funky color changes as long as I can see the new posts. lol

I'm liking the grayscale header really well too!

AzTJ 02-22-2010 10:38 PM

I'm liking all the updates, very nice... but I hope the color of the text in the banner is changed. That yellow hurts my eyes. lol
