lift question

I know, I know. I keep asking question after question about this, bear with me. Least this isn't another thread where I pick little bits of y'alls personalities to snicker about. :D

I'm looking at a relatively small lift since I only want 31 or 32 inch tires. I'm wondering why the OME lift that I'm eyeing comes with a 1" body lift.

What's the point of adding a body lift instead of just adding a bigger suspension lift?

cost is the first factor I can think of.

if the lift is small enough and then you add a body lift, you won't have to get into an SYE or new driveshaft or anything like that but will still have the clearance for tires.

Also, when you start looking at armor and skid plates there are much more products available if you're using a 1 - 1.25" BL.

Why wouldn't you want a 1" BL?

tiny terror 12-16-2006 03:20 PM

I'm not sure, Scout. That's why I asked. :p

So, there's a point to the body lift? It's not a short cut?

Filler opinion here...you know I have a spacer lift with new shocks and got the impression from all the recommendations here that for light off-roading the spacer lift would be fine. I like it and it was cheap. I got the skyjacker and have 32's. I heard and read that with body lifts come additional mods. is that right?

khenderson 12-16-2006 03:58 PM

if you get a 1'' BL and a 1'' MML, that'll be all you need....no extra mods necessary. the 1'' MML will help any vibes that might ever occur with the BB and keep the fan out of the shroud. it's when you go above 1'' that you would need to start looking at shifter linkage mods, brake line extensions, etc.

X2

This is the main reason I went with the 1.25" BL and MML. All my future plans of the Jeep like Tummy Tucks and a new gas tank skid will work much better with a body lift. Not many tummy tucks will work without a body lift.

Plus an extra inch clearance under the oil pan never hurts and helps cut down on the chance of driveline vibes.

Agreed (again). I do not have a BL and my choices in Tummy Tucks is pretty limited. Looks like Nth is about the best out there for anyone without a BL. Although, I'm still up in the air about the BL. I might be leaning that direction.

I think the N'th offers the most clearance for those without a BL. But I recall some people over on RoF getting the Medic to work without a BL. However I think it has about an inch less ground clearance then the N'th.

IMO I would rather install a body lift then the hammer (dimple) the under body of the Jeep to make it fit.

Scout 12-16-2006 05:04 PM

Yeah I've read the same thing too over there. I'm not a big fan of hammering out the floor pan to make something fit. I'm 70/30 leaning towards to BL and the Nth.

body lift gives you a little more height (only the body of course) to fit bigger tires but it doesn't affect the driveline.

Yep...

Body Lift - see how the bumper stays in place while the headlights get higher?

what size tires are on the jeep in the second pic?

tiny terror 12-17-2006 09:28 PM

It's photoshopped, bigjeep. The tires were just blown up digitally.
