hord top removal
I just traded my 92 yj for a 98 tj that has a hard top. if I wanted to take the top off during the summer will it ruin any of the seals or does it even have them?

Just remove it. It's designed to be removed.

You shouldn't have any problems removing the top. When you do take it off, inspect the seals and replace as needed. My 99 (now 15 years old) hard top seals could probably use a refresh to get a tighter seal but they still work. Since you said you want the top off all summer you'll have time...

The only seals you have to worry about are between the top and the tub on the sides, not the windshield or door seals. If the tub seals are torn up they can be easily replaced. I used a foam weather strip made for camper shells and it has held up fine for 2 years so far.

Have a hard top on my 2000 take I off all the time no worries. That's what they were designed to do

Go ahead and take it off; no worries. Though storage can sometimes be a headache if you don't have the space in an indoor environment. It should do fine out in the weather, but i'd raise it up on some blocks and put a tarp under it to prevent mud from splashing up into it when it rains(Happened to mine for the month i had it off, just annoying to clean). Also, be ready with the air gun to blow out any cobwebs from spiders who had made it their summer home :)

Thanks for all the help. My dad didn't want me to take it off until I checked to see that it wouldn't ruin the seals.

Logic dictates that if they made it removable, it can be removed.
If you're planning on keeping the vehicle and have garage space, I *highly* recommend a hoist system. This way it can be removed by 1 person, and you can store it out of the way without using up floor space. They sell for some $150, or you can devise your own for cheap with some pullies and rope.... or even just ratchet straps if you really want to cheap out.
