U-Joint replacement

I have to change out the u-joints on my 95 this weekend. They are the 1s closest to the front wheels.

Any tips or tricks I should be aware of before I pull the wheels off on Saturday?

you need a 13mm 12 point socket to remove the 3 hub bolts, the hub will be seized into the knuckle pretty good to. you need a 36 mm socket to remove the axle nut. and have a couple nice sharp punches to remove the clips holding on the u joints. check your front brakes ahead of time, they will be coming off, perfect time to replace them if they're worn.

I thank you for the advice sir. I will definitely check the breaks tonight before I pull everything apart in the morning. The old girl may even be getting new shoes tomorrow...never know.

I would get the Duralast Gold. The ones that are not grease able. They have a lifetime warranty

spicer's are the best.

And if they have never been replaced like mine then you might prepair yourself to take them to a shop to have them pressed out. Even the shop I took them too had a tough time of it and asked me if the axle had been underwater for a while!!

Spicer is the best, but if you can get the same part with a lifetime warranty for half the price I don't see the need to go with spicer.

there is no same part as spicer. i've had experience with hundreds of u joints. the original spicer u joints last 100k on average, sometimes more. no other replacement ujoint does, greasable or not. greasable will last decent only if they're greased regularly, if they are not greased they last 20k. aftermarket non greasables have yet to last 100k in my experience.

spicers are not cheap that is for sure. and i've yet to see any options in getting them besides the stealer and online/catalogs.

Tried to get it done this morning and like jpdoc said originally...the hub was seized REALLY bad. My mechanice cousin didn't bring all his air tools home unfortunately so we weren't able to break the hub loose from the knuckle. Going to give it a go in a week or so...don't have any free time till then.

BTW, this is the last 2 u-joints I have to replace...they were all shot when I bought the jeep so I bought all duralast golds originally. If they don't hold up I will try out the spicers.
