My semi long term TJ plans
I am going to post my semi long term plans for my TJ. I just hope I can follow through with them as I intend. Also, please understand this is my DD and my funds are limited (DOH) so I just can't up and do everything at the same time.
Quick background: I bought an 06, new in 07. Traded it in 09 for something more gas efficient. moved closer to work at end of 09. totaled vehicle in feb (dam ice on roads in the south. HUH?). picked up a used 2004 with a couple of minor upgrades (see below).
Current 2004 TJ:
tube bumpers front/rear with a pair of KC lights
31x10.5 a/t tires with cragar black wheels
supertop with factory stock hardware (not bestop hardward) w/o door surrounds
2" BB with shocks or RC 2.5" with springs/shocks
32" MT tires
locker for front axle (aussie maybe?)
door surrounds and a normal soft top for easier removal
Those are my only plans right now. I should be able to buy the lift kit next month, then it may be a month or so before I have it installed. (unless I can find a local jeeper with tools and experience). I would like to have this completed in the summer, but more realistically, maybe by end of year.
My main question is the lift kit. I have searched and read a lot of threads about them and I am looking for the cheaper route. Is a 2" BB (spacers/shocks) comparable to the RC 2.5" (shocks/springs)? And yes, I have read all of the stuff about the RC kits/brand.
I only do mild offroading stuff. No hard core rock climbing or the like. I actually hit a local trail this past weekend and even hit some of the advanced trails (until I got stuck in a small mud puddle... serious.. couple of dam 4 wheelers helped me out)
Anyway, thanks for any thoughts and ideas.
Oh yeah, maybe a winch down the road, but that may be a ways off. It is not a priority at this point.
I believe my wheels are good enough on the back spacking to allow the 32's I am wanting also. Here is a cropped pic. The tires are out further than my old stock rims with 31's.
Theirs nothing wrong with a BB. With that said IMO if your going to get a lift and replace shocks you might as well do coils to. If you have the money do it right the first time. I had a BB on a Cherokee for about 3 months when I just gave in and bought coils, which I should have done in the first place. If you plan on having Aftermarket bumpers, accessories, etc... your going to want some good coils to hold the weight. My advice would be save and get a full suspension kit in the brand of your choice.
The price difference between the 2" BB and the 2.5" with springs is not very much. So both of those options are reasonably inexpensive, as compared to other kits.
