I have a 2003 Wrangler Rubicon with the I-6 engin. This weekend while driving I was trying to shift into 3rd gear and it would not go so I pulled over and played with it and finally got it to go into gear and all seemed fine. Then I got about 300 more yards down the road and when trying to change gears it would grind real bad and the clutch is very hard to depress. At this point I came to a complete stop could not get the jeep in gear and the cluch is had to depress. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what may cause this and what I need to do to fix it. I do have basic mechinical knowledge but not much on clutches or clutch problems. :banghead:
Thanks in advance.

The clutch is hydraulic, check the fluid in the cylinder.

Took it into the shop today. They said I need to replace the clutch and the master cylinder.

Clutch problems. Have to rap it out to 4000 to shift, or it will feel like it is slipping. Occasionally I hear a tink under the jeep. Is this the clutch plate getting old? Maybe a trow out bearing. Wanted opinion just in case this could be a transfer case or Pumpkin problem.
