fabricating a swing out tire carrier for my 98 TJ 2nd day
Today I spent the day in the shop closing in the frame area and strengthening it to hold the tire. Also added tie down hook holders for when and if they're needed. I also put a plate on the bottom for the jack and used uni-strut at the top. Two bolts at the bottom w/wing nuts holding it down.:crash:
This photo shows it open.
When I bought the tire carrier hinge kit I also ordered the spare tire mounting plate. After receiving it I realized it was for a Toyota tire carrier.:banghead: It's sturdy and I can drill it out I guess, but do you guys have any thoughts of what else to do? Should I pop the original off the TJ and rework it or just redrill what I bought?
very nice. can't wait to see it finished and bolted to the jeep.
either way, you're going to have to rework something. so i'd do the path of least resistance.... whichever one that is is up to you.
