Repairing scratches to soft top windows -- a tip
Over the weekend, I was shocked to see that the back window of my soft top had somehow picked up markings and scratches. The scratches were medium in severity and included a tennis ball sized area of cloudy scuffing.
This was a blessing in disquise because it led me to find a way of fixing scrathes that worked like a charm. I'd like to share it and would love to hear feedback as to whether it helps other jeepers.
I used to own an airplane. The plane I owned had a plexiglass windshield and the windshield was scratched. I purchased a product made by a company named Hangar 16 -- odd name, don't know if they're still in business. The stuff was an aircraft plexiglass windshield polish. It was not cheap -- I'd guess it must be $20 for a small bottle nowadays. Anyway, I washed the Jeep window to remove dirt and grit and applied a teaspoon of the Hangar 16 product on the window -- I polished it for only a minute of two and BANG! the window looked good as new. Not even any swirl marks. I mean it looked new.
I used a clean towel and applied only light to medium pressure, but the polish knocked the scrathes right out.
To be sure -- I have not tried other aircraft plexiglass polishes. Perhaps they ALL would work; in fact, there may be other plexiglass polish products that accomplish the same result, but this stuff definitely worked. I had previously seen that a buffer with mirror glaze automotive compound fixes plastic windows. This stuff, however, was amazing. Given how expensive those damn windows are, knowing that if more scratches appear there's an easy way to fix them is great. Lemondade from lemons....
Any other Jeeper methods out there?
for a quick fix clean the windows then wipe with lemon pledge! it makes the scratches go away but it is only a temp fix.
BTW -- Hangar 16 is out of business.
