3.73 gears and Tires

Just curious if anyone knows the max size tire I could run on 3.73 gears without being bogged down? Not interested in regearing and also not interested in having a sluggish jeep (I enjoy using 6th gear).

Sounds like you might better stick with what you have. I think any bigger and you will feel a loss in power. Someone smarter than me will probably pop in soon and tell you different tho' :)

Lift Kits, Tires & Wheels by 4 Wheel Parts

Here is a good guide to gear ratios and tire sizes.

Thanks for the input! Would there be much difference going to a 33" from a 32"? I don't mind adding a spacer if need be.

 That would depend on the mfg of the tire, most 285 metric series, be they 16/17/18 inch's are listed as being 33" in diameter, but

When you get them installed, they are about a high 31'" or low 32"

If you get a real 33" tire installed then you will need WHEEL ADAPTERS and have to modify your front bumper, because of RUBBING

If you measure your 32' BFG's, they're probably 31" installed, you'll have to do homework, before buying 33" tires, my Hankook Dynapro M/T are 33.6" and 33.2" installed

I didn't need a lift for street, but I DID, for off-road and I had to put on Spidertrax adapters

I have 4:11 gears and you will probably have trouble on hills and maintaining freeway speed--probably never use 6th gear again !!

Checkitout

Search this forum for the chart that US Antigoon has posted several times. It helps seeing how tire sizes and gear ratios effect each other..... Its in one of my first threads I started.

We run 33" all-terrains on Briana's with 3.73's and the Superchips programmer. We get great fuel economy (17-22 MPG), and it's not bad going down the road. I wouldn't go any bigger, though, and for wheeling, it's a bit too quick- Mark W.
