Dis-assembly of a full door help?
Well, my driver-side door handle is officially worn out; I've got a new one on order and anticipate a weekend arrival. Too long to explain what happened, but it's time to change the handle assembly.

Soooo, judging by the look of it (after removing the interior panel), there's two vertical saw-blade-lookin' brackets on each side of the handle housing which exert pressure to keep the housing pressed against the door....and some strange retaining clips for them. I don't think there's enough room to remove the brackets with the window still in the door; it seems they're meant to be removed/installed through the window sill. Anyone know the wiser?

My plan is to tear apart what I must this weekend to change the handle, hoping someone has some input here to make it go smooth :)

Thanks in advance!

Just did both my handles. Kind of a pain in the ass, but you already get the idea on how they are fastened. I rolled up the window and went in from the hole in the door. You can pry up the clips to get them off. Once they are off you push up the "saw like" shims that hold the handle in. Oh....Before you do that, make sure you remove the cotter pin from the bar connected to the door handle. That is it. Kind of a pain to get your hand up there and so on and so forth, but I got it gone even if I maybe didn't do it the easiest way. Good luck.

This should make things quick and easy...I went from taking 1-2 hours on one door to being able to do it in under 15 minutes flat. lol

Thanks for the info fellas :)

Handle came in today and got it changed out (but did so before I got to read that 'how-to' post from sentenced). I managed to do it all with the window still in, but brucker had it right; PITA! Those saw-blade lookin' retainers took some fangdanglin' to get back in, I ended up drilling a 1/4" hole above each one (through the interior steel door panel) and pried them into place using a flat-blade screwdriver...basically used the hole as a leverage point for the screwdriver. Had it all done in an hour, but will certainly use your 'how-to' post in the future should I have to do it again. :)
