I just bought this jeep a few months ago. I noticed this winter that the heat comes out of the dash up near the door windows, even when the heat is turned off. I did not care because it was winter and you can't have too much heat in New Hampshire. Well now it is getting warm outside and the heat is too much. The heat as I drive ( all nobs to off and cold) the heat blows out at my feet and the vents on the dash. It gets soo hot at my feet that I have to turn it to defrost every once in a while to give some relief to my feet! What could be causing this? Vacume leek? stuck open door? It is a 6 cylinder. Do the heater cables feel hooked up?
Any sounds of vents opening or closing?
Do you have air?

My '99 does the same exact thing. I have had it for over two years now, but I always thought it was normal, maybe it isnt. I live in Florida, so the heat on my feet can be kind annoying, although with the top and doors off it isnt a big deal.

No air. I can hear doors closing and opening. But when every thing is in the cold and off positions it still blows out HOT. It seems to blow faster as the jeep goes faster.

Try pulling the heater control from the dash. On the back of the heater control unit you will see the cables that hook up to the control levers. Follow the cables to the actuators to see if you can make any adjustments. I think I remember at least one of them having an adjustment ability on it.

My '00 and '02 did the exact same thing, it feels like the heat is coming straight from the engine because it gets hotter the faster you go.

to much heat
hey, i have a 99 tj 2.5l and i have the same exact problem. heat comes through the floor vents even when my gauge is set to cool(blue) and my fan is turned off. the air does come out faster the faster i go. does anyone have a solution to this?

If im reading this correctly here is my explanation. Those vents that point to your windows above your front speakers are to remove fog and the ice so you can successfully see out of your mirrors. Hope this answers what your asking and that I'm understanding the question correctly. Im not sure about the feet thing, but the vents to clear ice off the windows is normal im pretty sure

Sounds to me like something isn't closing properly...like a mixing door or something along those lines.

I have a 98 Wrangler. Under the dash, beneath the glove box is your cable actuated heater control valve. It's actually the blend door actuator that moves the door from a hot air source to a cold air source and vice versa. If an idiot goes grocery shopping and puts milk and other big items down on the floor and then jams them back under the dash for more floor space it is easy to snap that cable from the control. So, you have the feel of a working cable when in all actuality it is traveling but not attached. You can manually adjust the valve from hot to cold and vice versa. It will not stay in the middle so it's one or the other. Yeah, that was my example. I did that. Haven't had the need to fix it but I am all too familiar with the broken blend door cable mount hoot foot syndrome of which you speak.

Thanks for all the input. I figured it out. The cable was not connected under the dash below the glove box. I took a small wood screw, put it through the hole on the end of the cable and screwed it into the bottom of the valve that it used to be attached to. Works great now!!!

Thanks but no need for the pics, i found the cable and sure enough the bolt holding the cable to the actuator was missing. Thanks guys.

Does anyone know how to connect the cable back to the lever,I'm refering to the top not the bottom, or pics of it so I can figure out whats missing to get it hooked to lever.TY
