New to the Jeep world, would appreciate some help.

So im picking up my first ever Jeep, its a '97 Wrangler 4.0L 6cyl (Good model?) pretty much stock option. Im looking for some ideas on how to mod it for a better offroading time. Some Questions, how much should i lift it, what sort of suspension would be reasonable? This and any other mods that you have found useful for your own Jeep. Nothing too crazy or expensive because i am a student and dont have that much money.
Any response is most appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum
The first thing that you need to do is take it out to play as is. You will get a better idea of what you want to do to it. Find a local group to go wheeling with. Most have rides planned for beginners. You will be pleasantly surprised at what you can do and where you can go with a stock Wrangler.

Make sure you go out with other people, don't go alone. Have some fun and enjoy :)
