Gear Ratio Causing Problems?
 
2000 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L I6, Auto.

I purchased a jeep for a steal about a month ago, and the previous owner had upgraded a lot of things on this jeep. Two of the many upgrades are 33" Tires, and a 4" lift. I have been getting terrible gas mileage, and have a hard time getting over 70MPH, god forbid I am on any incline. So, I slid under and took a gander at the gear ratio it had and it is 3.07. What gear ratio should I have with my Jeep, and these upgrades? Would the gear ratio be causing the very low MPG's, and trouble gaining speed?

Also, every so often my oil gauge will drop almost instantly from 80 to 0, and then slowly start going up, and then drop back to 0 again. After a little bit it will make it's way back to a steady 80. Any ideas?

Also, also, will I have any problems with this setup having the stock yoke and drive shaft?

your speedo is off with the 33'' tires, your actually going faster and further that what your speedometer is showing

3.07s with an auto and 33s would def cause your lack of acceleration and horrible gas mileage. i'm not sure which autos there were that year so ill let someone else recommend which gear ratio would be ideal.

i would try replacing the oil pressure sensor first. the fact that it drops off instantly and then comes back.....id look there first.

There are a lot of threads on here about gear ratios in relation to tire size. Do a search to dig back and see what everyone has to say. The good news is that no matter what ratio you decide to go with, it will be better than what you have right now. 4.10 - 4.56 would probably be best. As far as the oil pressure, it sounds like you have a bad sending unit on the engine. Easy to replace. Another possibility is a bad connection on the leads from the sending unit. Jeeps are known for this. Also easily fixed with lithium grease.
