jgano23 04-28-2010 08:35 AM

nope, never even heard of the place. is it a park like rausch creek? how much is it to wheel there? do they have a website?

KawiTJ 04-28-2010 10:23 AM

its an old coal place. There are trails on one side and coal on the other side of the road. Doesnt cost anything, ive seen alot of people camping, riding, and fourwheeling. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...09624&t=h&z=17 If you pull the map to see further to the right, you can see how big the place is.

KawiTJ 04-28-2010 10:26 AM

that link is the parking lot and the white lines are the start of some trails. There are a bunch of logging roads about 2 and a half jeeps wide, some one wide, and plenty of small obsticles.

jgano23 04-28-2010 10:41 AM

oh, ok. i think i may have heard about that place. it is a legal place to go right?

KawiTJ 04-28-2010 10:48 AM

as far as i know. I know that to ride dirt bike you are supposed to have a membership, but i have yet to come across anyone that has one or knows where to get them. If you have a street legal vehicle then you're fine. I have been there about 15 times and never been questioned on my dirtbike. there are videos all over youtube of the place. heres a few, the first few are mud, the last is a small rock wall

there is also a place called reading anthracite. i just found out about it recently. it is 100% legal. i believe you pay $100 for a yearly membership and they let you use designated parts of their property. one of my customers belongs to a club and he wheels his deuce and a half up there.

We take our Jeeps up to Shamokin and go on the trails off of 125. It is a huge area and as long as you are being safe and smart the police won't bother ya. People have been riding bikes and quads there for years and they are actually working on a proposal to make it a Rausch Creek type of park. Reading Anthracite is nice (have had our passes last 2 years) it is a huge area and not very difficult but its a nice place to go play for a few hours. They charge $100/vehicle for a 1 yr pass.

I've heard of them before. We've never been up there, but I've heard it's a good place.

jgano do you have the address or coordinates for Reading Anthracite, I'd like to check it out.
Thanks

Im open to go somewhere this sunday if anyone is interested. **disclaimer** I am a true newbie and have yet to be out on a trail and need some mentoring. I have always wanted to get into this and after 10 years of wanting pulled the trigger last weekend on my new Jeep.

Joshpeb2 10-17-2010 08:31 PM

I believe up at Treverton all you are "supposed" to have for dirt bikes and quads is the dcnr registration. Never heard anything about regular vehicle requirements. Anyone ever been up to Shenandoah (the name I know it by) right by the Wal-mart in Pottsville? Neighbor goes riding up there all the time. Been invited many times but, It never fails that I have plans when he's going.

I believe the RC type park project is the Northumberland OHV park proposal. Is this the same area of PA? I think a little north of RC. There are some articles on newsitem.com. Go to that site and use their search function for the terms 'economic engine'. If the same site, technically use of these 'free' lands is trespassing (per the article I read) but apparently is not enforced. If/when the new park opens I understand will not be free to locals but there will be a tiered fee for local/non-local.

Looks like there are a slew of trails just west (behind) the Fairlane Village Mall. Is this the same area? Bing's Bird's eye is outstanding for recon on this spot.

I just google earthed it.... let me know if its legit... I will come up with ya

wolfesneck 10-22-2010 06:54 PM

Wish I knew more about it, looks rather extensive and complex. I'll look closer next time I am in that area. I am about an hour or so east from that spot...

Joshpeb2 10-23-2010 04:37 PM

Just past the Fairlane Village mall on the opposite side of 61 is the Wal-Mart I spoke of earlier. The area my neighbor rides the dirt bikes and quads at is adjacent to the parking lot up on top the hill. He said something about going down into town to access the area. There is a traffic light just before wal-mart and there is a gas station on the corner on the right (if heading north on 61) turn right there. From there I cant remember where he said to go. I DO know that the correct road goes up over the mountain and there is a golf course along that road. I have driven up the road several years ago and saw lots of activity but, I don't know the legality of the area.

Bumping an older thread, but is anyone going to any of these locations soon? I'd love to join.

pyro 01-24-2011 03:55 PM

Rausch creek 2/12

ellman605 01-24-2011 08:54 PM

Hm..I'd be interested.

pyro 01-26-2011 01:15 PM

cool PM me

Went to treverton today by myself, everybody there is really friendly and welcoming, the trails are almost all Jeep friendly, just know your limitations and you'll be fine. Lots of people camp and stay the weekend there, plenty of mud holes and rock climbs, perfect for beginners and up. If anyone ever wants to go and needs someone to go with, i'm always looking to go wheelin'.
